Very good room, with lovely balcony on 2nd floor. Very comfy bed, excellent coffee maker, wifi and layout.

Olivier and Helene were helpful and eager to please throughout our stay, without being intrusive. The house is lovely, with a mellow slightly rickety charm that greatly appealed - Audubon prints on the walls, comfy canopied beds and even a framed letter from Louis XVI! Sitting on our long, shaded balcony was a real pleasure at the end of the day. I did feel, however, that the listing was a little misleading: it is described as 'entire home/flat', whereas what we got was exclusive use of the top floor (two bedrooms, bathroom and balcony).
Hélène & Olivier User Profile
Response from Hélène & Olivier:
Airbnb offers only the option of entire home/flat or shared room, Private quarters might be a good addition to listings. In this case it is not a shared room, it is full private quarters on the second floor of the house, like an entire flat with private front access door to the house, private upper balcony, front first floor porch with rocking chairs and front yard. No kitchen. It is very clearly listed as such and with many pictures to describe. Guest have full privacy. Wifi is supplied by powerful Applebox. We will ad a relay. Jonathan and Sarah are backpacking travelers and might be more fitted for new bungalows than exclusive historic accommodation (Doors where slammed instead of closed) and bathroom was the worst we've seen since starting with Airbnb.

I arrived very late which is a shame because I think I could have enjoyed a glass of wine on the balcony and a discussion with the host. By the little details that they had you could tell he wants to give a very nice service. The way he left fresh fig preserves to the way the towels were rolled gave it a very boutique feel to the stay. The bed was nice and comfortable. The wifi was not good and it is not really an entire home. However, it is almost like staying in a historic home, which it may well be, and I have absolutely no complaints.

Response from Hélène & Olivier:
We use the powerful Apple box for the Wifi, never had complaints, will look into it. Guests have full private quarters as indicated in the listing. It is staying in a historic home that is federally registered as part of Sterling Grove National Historic District.

We enjoyed our night in Lafayette at Helene and Olivier's beautiful home. We were there only a short while--we had much exploring to do and had to get a fairly early start the next morning--but the bed was comfortable, and the place was clean and quiet. Sitting out on the balcony at night and in the morning was perfection! The coffeemaker did give us trouble--it may be time for a replacement--but aside from that, it was a good but brief stay.

This may have been our best Airbnb experience so far! Totally recommend anyone considering to stay here. They respected our privacy, but were very easy to reach as well. Hélène & Olivier were so kind to pick us up from the train station, where we arrived by Amtrak from Houston. They live in a very quiet, green street with lots of space around the pretty homes. They live downstairs, 'our' bedroom, bathroom and private terrace were on the upper floor. We had our own staircase going up, which felt very private and safe. Big bonus is the terrace/balcony. We stayed there for 3 nights, every morning we would sit outside and read with a cup of tea. It has a roof, so even comfortable when the weather is bad! The bedroom was spacious, had a fridge (which was stocked with Cava and water), coffeemaker (with lots of coffees to pick from), airco and ceiling-fan. Wonderful wooden floors, the furniture and decorations are picked out to match the age of the house, they paid a lot of attention to details. The bathroom has a tub with shower, again they provided anything you could need from shampoo to perfume and make-up remover. Great service! To give you an idea of the upper floor plan, when you walk op the stairs: the door to your right goes to bedroom 1 (not ours), in front of you is the door to the terrace/balcony, to the left of that is bedroom 2 (ours), another door to the left is the bathroom. There is no kitchen. I'm sure Hélène & Olivier wouldn't mind if their guests asked to use their kitchen, but just know that it's not there - we kept yoghurt and cruesli in our fridge for breakfast and ate out for every other meal. So it's not really an entire home/apartment. We didn't mind. As for the location of the house: it is close to the city centre of Lafayette, we considered it walking distance (app 15/20min). Also they borrowed us their bikes, as we had no car, which was great! It's not a super bike friendly city, but we were fine. The city is quite compact, everything is pretty easy to reach. Hélène & Olivier have great restaurant tips, on one very rainy night we even had dinner together with them! We really enjoyed their company, they're very easy to chat with. Also, they were kind enough to take us to a Whole Foods so we could stock up on breakfast/snacks :). On the last day we had coffee & tea with them in their garden, where we also got to meet their pretty dogs (don't worry if you're not into dogs: they keep them in their private area, we didn't even see them until that day). Again Olivier was kind enough to take us back to the train station to continue our journey - thanks again guys! This is what Airbnb is about. Give us a call if you ever visit Amsterdam...

We are a married couple who lives and teaches in South Louisiana. My husband and I own a historic home in Downtown Lafayette and enjoy the grandeur of living created by the architecture, high ceilings and front first and second floor galleries. We both hold administration / faculty positions in education, my husband is in higher education and I am in secondary education. My husband has a PhD in Francophone studies and enjoys sharing his knowledge of Louisiana's History, Culture and Folklore. I am very involved with the Historic Preservation of Lafayette and love to research the past history of our culturally rich environment., We both love reading, learning new things, traveling, eating out, festivals and meeting new people.
We will share with you the great eateries and venues off the beaten pass.
