The space

A cosy 18th Century stone built cottage set on Heron Farm, Coney Island, County Down. A base for the Oscar winning short film 'The Shore', a stone's throw from the beach. Enjoy the areas' golf courses, scenic walks, seaside villages and the natural beauty of the Mourne Mountains and Strangford Lough.
'One Tree Cottage' has two bedrooms, Bedroom 1 is a double, with an antique brass and iron bed, with an ensuite shower and wc. Bedroom 2 has twin single beds, with adjoining shower room and wc.
The entrance hall leads into the living/dining room. This is a cosy room with two sofas by the wood burning stove,[wood supplied], a TV, DVD, free WIFI, radio, piano, books, board games and puzzles. There is a dining table and four chairs.
The kitchen is home to the Rayburn oil-fired range, which not only cooks a mean casserole, but warms the whole cottage. There is a four-ring electric hob, a microwave/grill, toaster, kettle and a full range of cookware. There is a fridge with a small freezer compartment, and a washing machine. All cutlery and crockery is supplied.
Towels and bedding are supplied. If you intend to swim, please bring your own towels.Hoover and cleaning equipment is provided + an iron and ironing board.
Guests have parking outside the front door, and use of the lawn and BBQ and table and chairs.
As the cottage is level throughout, it is accessible to guests with mobility problems.
Coney Island offers a safe sandy beach for swimming. There are rocky inlets around 'the Island' [it's really a promontory!] where you can swim at high tide, or explore the rockpools at low tide. You can walk across the mudflats of Killough Bay at low tide, and be entranced by the diversity of the birdlife, or wait for high tide to get in or on the water. There is a slipway in Killough, and one in Ardglass. Both Coney Island, and Killough Bay are good for windsurfing and dinghy sailing.
Ardglass Golf Course borders the eastern side of Coney Island Bay. There are other courses within easy driving distance.
There are shops, pubs, two restaurants, a cafe, a marina, and remains of Norman castles in Ardglass.
The bus stop is outside the cottage. We are on Patrick's Way, Lecale Way, the Ulster Way, with beautiful walks along the coast, north towards Strangford Lough, and south towards the Mourne Mountains.
Or you could just stay at Heron Farm and enjoy a lesson in pottery, sculpture or mosaic in Berni's Coney Island Design studio!
Bring wellies and slippers!

A friendly welcome to a comfortable and clean cottage with starter items in the well-equipped kitchen. A great base for our walks along the Lecale Way including the Ballyhornan Coastal Path.

Berni's location is very special. We love it! The warm welcome you get and willingness to help with anything makes you feel very welcome. One little draw back is the absence of an oven. There is a range which cooks slowly and a hob but for a quick pizza there is no option to cook…

Response from Berni:
Maybe it's because we are used the Rayburn, but if I have the choice, I would use it every time over our own electric oven, for everything from pizzas, through casseroles to the best roasts you will taste! For quicker results, there is also the microwave. The Rayburn also heats the cottage, so in a small kitchen we feel it earns it's place.

Our stay was first class. The cottage is cosy, clean and perfect for a family getaway. Berni and Rob are the greatest hosts, making sure we were set with anything we needed. Coney Island is one of our favourite places and we'll definitely return to the cottage next year.
