OUR HOUSE AND YOU
This is our home away from home. We want you to enjoy this beautiful sand dune overlooking Lake Tahoe with your family and loved ones as much as we do. Our ideal guest will want to return again and again, with their children, family and friends playing on the sandy beach as they grow, playing in the snow, hiking, biking, snowshoeing or skiing the nearby woods year after year.
The house is 3 bedroom 2 bath with kitchen and small laundry room off the master bath with separate mudroom type entry. Large Deck with Bar-B-Que is great in summer with lake view hot tub, lawn and garden areas front and back. Parking for 3 or more cars, though in winter you may need good tires and some winter driving experience depending on conditions. The house has 3 beds, one per bedroom.
Small and cozy, we have hosted several families in both summer and winter, in plenty of comfort.
We installed all new appliances during the summer/winter of 2013/14. Immediate plans up next include new carpet and paint, and furnishings.
THE BEACH, NEIGHBORHOOD AND WOODS
An important note about the sand dune:
The Sand Dune is protected and a mixture of private and California preserved land. Please respect it - no bikes, wagons, carts or dragging large floaties on the land. It creates erosion and disturbs the habitat of the bunnies, chipmunks, squirrels and other native species that depend on the dune for their homes. You may walk on it, be aware of the plant life as you walk.
There are beach toys for the summer (floaties, life vests, wetsuits, boogie boards, Umbrella, Bucket and Shovels for sand castles, and a red wagon to carry the stuff to the beach in) and a few snow toys (snow shoes, poles, Saucer sleds) for winter in the storage shed. Please respect that this is our home, and there are some personal items as well. This has never been a problem for us or our guests in the past.
In the summer the sound of children's laughter and play from the beach, waves and birds will soothe your morning coffee from the deck chairs. Many lazy summer days have seen those morning beverages turn to colder drinks and then an evening sunset from the hot tub with little else accomplished. So, be forewarned!
Summer nights with the windows open may reveal the howls of coyotes as well as the ever present hoots of local owls. Surprisingly, the coyotes are often just as vocal on cold winter nights. Be on the lookout for Red Tailed Hawks as well as Peregrine Falcons hunting the dune, with the occasional Great Horned Owl not to mention Bald Eagles. Gray Squirrels, Cotton Tailed Rabbits and Chipmunks all share the property with you.
A word about Bears. YES...they DO! Please be aware that bears live full time, year round in this neighborhood. They are routinely seen on the lawn, and wandering the neighborhood...usually looking for food! Please don't leave your food in your car or trash outside. They WILL come for it. Also, if you hike the neighboring woods, exercise caution during spring and early summer in thick brush as Mother bears have cubs and become protective when their cubs are small.
There are a couple restaurants within a short walk, and several in nearby Kings Beach, Carnelian Bay, Tahoe City and Incline. The North Shore Casinos are under 3 miles to the east.
Shopping is best in (order of distance) Kings Beach, Tahoe City, and Incline. Of course Truckee, Carson City and Reno are nearby but out of the Tahoe Basin. The Safeway in Kings Beach is less than 1 mile and is open 24 hours.
Bunny Dunes is fairly unique for a North Tahoe Vacation rental, because it is an "Easy walk to the Beach". The difference being, in this case it's actually true! And, when you get to the beach which is across the street, it is not private property or a pile of (URL HIDDEN) is an actual public beach with actual Sand!
Additionally, if you are a boater, there is a public boat ramp with outstanding dock about a block from Bunny Dunes. There are Kayak and Paddle Board rentals at this beach as well.
There is a crosswalk at the stoplight near the National Avenue (2 blocks west) intersection. With smaller children or during busy traffic times/season, the crosswalk/stoplight is preferred over playing "frogger" trying to cross the street nearer the house.
In summer, there is a hiking/mountain biking trail just 2 blocks away to the north, and from there the North Tahoe Regional Park has bike trails as well as Groomed Nordic trails in winter! Brockway Golf Course (9 holes with driving range, pro and rentals) is less than a mile, and also a nice place to snowshoe in winter.
Personally, I ski Squaw Valley, and it takes me 21-25 minutes on a normal winter day to drive. Alpine Meadows, Homewood and Diamond peak are all within the 20(+-) minute drive (website hidden). Rose is not much further. Northstar is probably closest at about 10-15 minutes.
Also, please ask about dining deals as we are working on discounts/package deals with some North Shore Restaurants, some of which are owned by friends of ours.
We have some personal items in the house, and have chosen not to lock it up, as is the case with some homes. We find this has worked and don't feel the need. The bottom drawer in the master bath, under the sink, as well as some clothing in the closet and dresser. The clothing in the front bedroom dresser is for emergency use, should you need a sweatshirt, board shorts, etc. The drawers on the left under the captain's bed are also personal items. We also have some computer gear in the middle bedroom. Please enjoy our home and thank you for respecting our items.
Interaction with guests
We are available through the AirBnb app, via text or phone. Do not hesitate to contact us - we appreciate good communication!
Other things to note
There is a First Aid kit on the wall in the laundry room.
For Larger Groups please book early to get both Bunny Dunes and Moonwalk with more space for larger families/groups, (total of 9 beds, 3 Baths 2 houses), less than one block apart.
This is a Residential Neighborhood and our home. Please observe all state and local laws and treat our neighbors and community members with respect and kindness.
Bunny Dunes is located adjacent to nature conservancy land. Please enjoy the dune by walking on it only and respecting our animal neighbors the cottontail bunnies, coyotes, bears, hawks, blue jays, woodpeckers, chipmunks and squirrels.
Be Bear Aware, and Bear Safe. There is a pamphlet on the refrigerator for your reference.
No Smoking indoors-No Smoking on Dune, properly dispose of your butts.
This is a high fire season! Be Fire Safe!
Check-out is 11am.
