Our beautiful one-room custom cabin is on the edge of the woods leading to the river. It's freshly appointed, very clean and very romantic, with modest cooking facilities and an outdoor grill with table and chairs... twinkle lights on the deck and a fire-pit out your door.

The space

Open mid-May through October.
3-night min. on holiday weekends.

Unique and private, this charming one-room 12’x16’ cabin is on the property of photographer Christine Triebert and designer Carol Ross. It was built in 2010 with the timber from an ancient hemlock tree on our riverfront land.
The fresh, contemporary accommodations include a king-size bed, (or two twins), private bath with tiled shower, and a wrap-around deck. A gas grill, large fire pit and colorful hammock are just out your door. Free wi-fi.

In this sweet one room cabin, you'll find a mini-fridge, toaster oven, French Press coffee maker, electric tea kettle and a gas grill outside for preparing simple meals. There is also a small built in table with 2 chairs, and a wicker chair for relaxing. Carol's handmade branch hooks dot the walls so there are ample places to hang things.

One COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST is include and served on the porch of the main house. Enjoy Chris' homemade popovers, seasonal fruit, organic yogurt, and Brattleboro’s own True North Granola... or delicious eggs in red pepper rings for a gluten-free option. And of course, always really good fresh-ground coffee.

The Rock River wraps around the property, and for rock hounds, this is a piece of heaven. There's an abundance of many beautiful and unusual rocks in the former river bed. We've created many paths with cairns along the way and invite you add to them!

Hiking, biking and kayaking are close by.

We also offer optional ART + PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS at Rock River Studio, our well-equipped, sky-lit building. All levels are welcome.

We’re located in the tiny village of South Newfane...17 min. from the well- known arts town of Brattleboro, 20 minutes from Marlboro and Mt. Snow, and easily accessible from Boston and NYC.

Open mid-May through October.
3-night min. on holiday weekends.
Vermont room tax of 9% is included.

Other things to note

We were familiar with Newfane, but the cabin and the hosts far exceeded our expectations. Chris and Carol went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home. Coordinating our arrival times with them was very easy and once we got there they took the time to show us the cabin and how everything works. The cabin is off the main house, has its own parking and entrance path, which provides a sense of privacy to both the guests and the hosts. The breakfast served on our last day was delicious and the conversation just as pleasant as the food. The town of Newfane is Vermont at its best, with an upscale restaurant about a mile from the cabin. The food and the service was so good that we had to go twice. The cabin was exactly as you would expect from the pictures, although the pictures probably don't do it justice. Falling asleep and waking up to the soothing sound of the river was wonderful. Highly recommended!

This was our second time at the Rock River Cabin, and it was just as wonderful as last year. Relaxing, comfortable, clean, private- an oasis away from the madness of our city lives! We especially enjoy lounging by the river with our books, cooking by campfire at night, and having a nice cozy place to sleep and relax in the cabin. Breakfast with Chris and Carol is the icing on the cake- great food with great company. We plan to keep coming back as long as they will have us!!!

A romantic hideaway for nature-minded couples, this simple yet very thoughtfully designed cabin in the woods with walking paths to a flowing river is a perfect respite from the modern world. Unplug and reconnect with your loved one around the firepit and fall asleep to the sounds of the river nearby. Carol and Chris have created a comfortable, beautiful haven for city-weary travelers. You will not be disappointed if you are searching for a cozy place to get away from it all and savor Vermont life!

Response from Chris And Carol:
Next time you come you'll see Chris' art hanging over the electric box! I (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)d Nautica for your bolster but they don't seem to make it anymore. In fact I didn't see that style (which I loved) any where in my general "bed bolster" search.... hopefully I'll find something. That was a great suggestion. Happy trails.... hope our paths cross again sometime! best, Carol

Chris and Carol have created a delightful and magical getaway cabin. Truly a treasure. I really enjoyed my stay and hope to be back again. I appreciated the artistry behind the design of the cabin and the way it was decorated as well as the rock sculptures on the beach. I received a warm welcome and also felt I had the privacy of a retreat house so it was a nice balance. Thank you Chris and Carol and hope to be back soon.

We spent a spectacularly restorative three days and nights at Rock River in the cabin created so lovingly by Carol and Chris. The location at the edge of the woods with the sound of the river rushing by is so special. For two city dwellers it was a wonderful experience to move from one thoughtful sitting location to the next, enjoying the river and the amazing rocks at different times of day and evening. We grilled and ate outside, lounged on our very own porch, and enjoyed the peaceful slumber of being in the semi-secluded woods. The added bonus of a delicious popover breakfast on our last morning and tour of our hosts’ Rock River Studio added to the perfect blending of art and nature that gives this spot such a special feel. Also, being situated fairly close to Brattleboro yet far enough away to offer much-needed quiet, the cabin afforded us the opportunity to rest and relax but also to go into town to visit antique shops and have lunch. We are eager to return!

We moved to Vermont via NYC and Boston and have felt at home right from day 1. I'm a graphic design and potter, and Chris is a fine art photographer with work held in the collections of Ralph Lauren, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Ritz Carlton Hotel. We also offering art and photo workshops in our studio.

Our property is surrounded by the Rock River and we hear the sound of the water over the rocks all the time. It's our piece of heaven and we now want to share it with others who appreciate the simple, beautiful life here in Vermont.
