The space

The Sleeping Moose Cottage: 2 bedrooms (sleeps 5), modern bath, wood stove, private beach access"

The Sleeping Moose Cottage is located on the North Shore of Cape Breton Island, 8 km south of Cape Smokey, between the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (25 km) and the town of Baddeck (65 km) on the Bras d'Or Lakes.

The North Shore, originally settled by Scots in the early 1800s, is now home to lots of moose, a crab and lobster fishery (May - July), as well as many fine artisans and crafters.

From the deck of the Sleeping Moose Cottage you might see whales and seals, for sure ocean birds, and 'our' Bald Eagle who does a 'fly-by' a couple of times a day. Walk to our pebble beach and enjoy the beautiful view and sometimes-loud silence of the waves hitting the pebbles.

There are lots of hiking and snowshoeing trails in and outside the National Park, and if you like golf... Highland Links is a beautiful 25-minute drive away.

The Sleeping Moose is a housekeeping cottage with a full kitchen, but it is conveniently located on the same property as the Dancing Moose Cafe. It serves unusual breakfasts and lunches bilt around Dutch Pannekoeken (stuffed pancakes), Belgian waffles, a daily soup, and baked treats, all made from scratch in our own kitchen.

We are an all-season accommodation. Start your day watching the sun rise over the ocean. Then, spend a lazy summer's eve on your private deck watching the stars come out. Light a cosy fire in your wood stove on chilly evenings, or in winter when snow has changed the landscape. On rainy days, enjoy a free movie or a bit of surfing with our free wireless Internet.

The cabin is a perfect getaway! It's so serene, with the ocean waves and glistening birches all around you and it comes with pets (a cat and chickens). The place is sparkling clean inside, and the host is just lovely. Shhhhh - Let it be our secret spot!

The Sleepy Moose was a perfect spot for us to enjoy some relaxation and also so convenient to continue our trip of the Cabot Trail. Loved it.

We had a fantastic stay! The cabin was just as the description and photos suggest. It was very clean and comfortable. The ocean view was better than we had thought with a short path to our own private picnic table over looking the sea. The food at the café was delicious! Ton and …

Ton made us welcome and was very helpful. The Sleeping Moose was comfortable and clean and in a lovely situation close to the sea. The wood-burning stove made it an especially cosy evening. The Dancing Moose cafe close by provides an opportunity to get a good breakfast of a ´pan…

The Sleeping Moose Cabin is on Ton's property on the Cabot Trail and it is beautiful. The pictures are accurate, but the entire grounds and feeling of the area are much better in person. The cabin was cozy and with enough luxuries that made us felt like we really were on vacation…
