We really enjoyed our stay at Dudi's studio cottage near the heart of Florence. On arrival we were met by Dudi and her assistant Guiseppe, who welcomed us to the house and showed us around the grounds. They explained how everything worked, and made suggestions for touring and restaurants. Numerous guest books from previous visitors were on display which were fun as well as helpful to read. A bottle of wine had been set out for us, which was a lovely surprise. The studio itself is just as described and pictured on the site. The room design and its furnishings are lovely and comfortable. The large windows (which can be drawn closed at night) provide plenty of light. In the heat, the air conditioning was more than adequate. A fireplace is also present though it was hard to envision a need. Everything was in good repair and functioned well. The studio was well equipped for cooking as well as relaxing, and included thoughtful ammenities such as a hair dryer, clothes iron and ironing board. There was also a TV and wi-fi though we found our cell connections easier to use. Laundry facilities, in the main house, were easy to use and access. We stayed one week and cooked at the studio several nights. There are plenty of different kitchen utensils, cooking pots and dishes and glassware of all shapes and sizes. There is a toaster, cooktop, stove and microwave. It is not hard to find shops walking distance away for good quality groceries or prepared food. Our host graciously offered to take us to shop, which we did not take advantage of. On the nights we went out for dinner we found several excellent restaurants within walking distance of the studio, either in the Oltrarno area or in the opposite direction away from the centre. During our visit the weather in Florence was exceedingly hot and we appreciated the cool, refreshing and very clean swimming pool. The pool is in a lovely garden setting of lawn, olive and palm trees, roses and other flowers. Deck, lounge chairs and beach towels are provided. There is also a bbq though we didn’t try it out. The studio is adjacent to, but private from, the main villa and another smaller building on a large tract of land very near to the center of Florence – only 10 or 15 minutes walk to the Oltrarno area, perhaps 20 to the Ponte Vecchio or Pitti Palace. It is an easy walk downhill to the sites; in the hot heat summer, we sometimes returned by bus which is very easy. The best part about this listing is that you are able to enjoy all the wonderful sights of historical Florence and then easily retire to a quiet, relaxing cottage and garden with a swimming pool. It is really the best of both worlds.
