Giusi's apartment is absolutely lovely and perfectly situated in a vibrant, safe and central area of Naples.
The narrow, cobbled streets and historic buildings in the neighbourhood are full of colour and character... constantly alive with a mad, chaotic mix of scooters, pedestrians, old women leaning out of windows, men sitting chatting on chairs on the side of the road, washing hanging off balconies like flags strung across the street... and numerous local bars, restaurants, pizzarias and pasticcerias.
One street down is the main shopping street - Via Toledo - with all the fashion brand stores as well as the beautiful domed Galleria Umberto and the famous coffee house - Gambrinus - literally a 5 min walk away. Also within easy and quick walking distance is the Metro Underground as well as the Harbour for ferries to Capri, Ischia, Procida etc
The apartment is on the 4th Floor with a small balcony. Even though in an historic building, thankfully there is a lift / elevator (which quaintly requires payment of a 20 cent coin to operate. NOTE: it is advisable to start gathering a stash of 20 cent coins early and often...! Those gigantic old stone stair steps can be rather challenging at 1am after numerous Aperols or Negroni's!!!). It is bigger than expected from the photos, with high ceilings and modern, tasteful finishings. The view from the tall doorway onto the balcony, over the rooftops with the huge dome of Galleria Umberto almost in centre frame and Vesuvius in the distance behind to the left of it, was just beautiful to wake up to. One bedroom is open plan on the Mezzanine level and the 2nd bedroom privately closed off behind it also on the upper level. It's ideal for a single person/couple/couple + kids.
Giusi was a pleasure to meet and a wonderful host. She always responded quickly to all correspondence and queries and was so accommodating with check-in and check-out arrangements. She had kindly provided bottled water and a variety of juices in the fridge - which was much appreciated - as well as a bowl full of 20 cent coins for the elevator. She and her friend quickly made me feel at home and gave me great recommendations for restaurants and where to find what in the area.
I loved my stay in Napoli...and I loved staying in Giusi's apartment. I think it is in the most convenient, interesting and safe location in the city.
I have no hesitation in recommending Giusi as a host and her lovely apartment and I would definitely want to stay here again in the future.
