Sitting on the shore of the great Lake Taupo is this genuine family bach. Perfectly located 25 mins south of Taupo or 15 mins north of Turangi and 5 seconds from the water!

Lovingly extended and updated since it's 1940's fisherman's hut origins.

The space

This is a basic and quirky quintessential kiwi bach, but cosy and recently upgraded for a more homely feel. The location is truly hard to beat, less than 20 steps from the shore, metres from a boat ramp and minutes to some of the best trout fishing spots in NZ.

We are mere caretakers of the land, it belongs to the local Maori iwi (tribe). It is a slice of pure paradise and we ask guests to treat it as we do. We try to use ecological products that have the least impact on the surroundings and we encourage guests to do the same. There is no rubbish pick up - all household waste must be taken with you when you leave.

Truly is a typical Kiwi Bach. Situated perfectly on the lake but also very private.

Absolutely loved our stay, was more roomy than we expected, everything was smooth sailing, wish the weather was better but even so was so great being able to see the sea from inside the living space and play cards and relax. Couldn't hear any road noises, and everything was set up well! Would love to come back during summer, really beautiful spot and felt really at home. Wonderful weekend! Recomend other people to look up on grab one deals for in the area such as hot pools:) we got some good deals through that!

Amazing views, good place, calm and serenity around. Heaters could have been a little more potent, but we arrived quite late. Almost a 1940's time capsule, thanks for the stay.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at Maren's. And hope to be back for a longer stay soon! We used the cottage as our base to take our children to the snow to go sledding at Whakapapa and to the hot pools. The views of the lake are stunning. The cottage itself is charming and attractive and we had everything we could need. The stars are amazing at night. The sunrise and sunset over the lake are sensational!! We even loved our rainy day. The only possible detractor was the occasional sounds of traffic. However that is not a complaint. We had an absolutely wonderful time and highly recommend this lovely spot and lovely host to anyone wanting to enjoy the better side of lake Taupo and the delights it has access to. Many Thanks!!
