The villa has all and much much more you would want for a great holiday. Everything is well set out but what is most surprising is how welcoming the local people are, evening if you cannot speak each other's language. Local people brought us food and welcomed us to their homes. When you come here you are far away from your average package hotel holiday, this is the real Crete and you are welcomed into their village way of life.

A nice villa in a very rural village about 10 minutes in land from the coast. Check in was easy and the host was very helpful. We enjoyed barbecuing in the evening on the roof terrace watching the sun set over the White Mountains. The nearest beach is at Episkopi which has all the amenities. For small children it is probably best to go to Georgopoli a little further up the coast as it was very shallow. Rethymnon is about 25 minutes to the old town where there are lots of restaurants. This is a place for chilling and we found it's best to go out for lunch and eat at home in the evening. Everything in the house worked well and there are 4 bikes available if you want to go cycling. As it was 35 degrees we did not bother with the bikes. A really nice house.

We had a fantastic stay at Athina House. The house was beautiful, comfortable and had lots of space for us a family of 5. The teenagers had their own space and so did the adults. The house had everything you needed and everyone was happy. They provide as a welcome, fruit, olive oil and Raki. The house has everything you need. There are 2 amazing terraces. One outside the kitchen area, and one on the roof with a lovely canopy, lights , brick BBQ & sink, sunbeds and a hammock and a toilet. But you will enter into the upstairs via lit up steps where the Jacuzzi is. This is lovely to relax in after a long day of sight seeing. We watched the sun go down and it was stunning. Breathtaking! A real luxury. The house is located in a beautiful village Archontiki with wonderful people. The views are stunning and breath taking, especially if you walk around the village. It is essential to have a car to get around. There is a little coffee bar in the actual village, but only a 5 min drive to Episkopi you have supermarkets, tavernas, take away, zacharaloplasteion (patisserie shop), bank, post office, hairdressers and other small shops. Another 5 mins and across the E75 (their equivalent of a motor way but actually a large main road) is Episkopi beach. This a very long stretch of beach and it has different areas catered by different cafes and small tavernas. Right opposite the exit to the road to the villages is a lovely beach. Fairly quiet and beautiful sea. There is a kiosk there that provides everything and they come to you and if you order something you can use the sunbeds and umbrellas free, otherwise they are 2 Euros. The sea can be a bit choppy at times as there are winds in August, but it is still lovely to have a swim and play. You also get some wonderful calm seas and crystal clear waters. Valia, whom we booked the house through gave us all the relevant information on how to get to the house, the hosts mobile number and recommendations for restaurants, beaches and sights. We used our Lonely Planet and Rough Guide Books which really helped. We left them there for the next visitors! We communicated with our host Nick to let him know when we were arriving and he met us there. He showed us around and told us how things work and told us about the village and in the basement of the house they have made a little museum about the history of the family home. Nick was great and we met all his family. His dad came to sort out the hot water, his mum came to bring fresh flowers and home made dessert and cleaned the house every 3rd day. His mum makes soap and these are everywhere in the house and they are lovely. 20 mins by car on the main road and...

What a comfort! A really beautifull house in the middle of nowhere but only 7 minutes to the beach ( or supermarket, or bank or reastaurant). A house with a lot of space, all the comfort you can think off, a very well equiped kitchen, livingroom, terrases. A real joy to live in! The whole family had a wonderful holiday!

The house was absolutely fantastic. It's in a tiny village south of Rethymno with goats and horses all around. It's a stunning non-touristey place and an amazing way to experience the real Greece without the huge crowds and loud streets. The house s very luxurious with a giant jacuzzi and really cool showers. There is a lake close by that we would really recommend going to. We are Canadian so we know nice lakes and this one was amazing. It isn't really a great place to sit but if you rent a paddle boat you are able to see the entire lake and hop out to swim in one of the clearest lakes we've ever seen. We went with children ages eleven thirteen, fourteen and seventeen and they said it was the highlight of their stay in Greece. The restaurant, with a great view of the lake is a nice place to have authentic Greek food and it's cheap! The one thing we would definitely like to point out is that you need a car to get there. The village is difficult to get to and there is no public transportation available. We assume a taxi would be very pricey condidering how difficult it is to get there and both the lake and beaches are seven to fifteen minutes away. There is a beautiful town near by called arogopoli which we recommend going to. There are beautiful waterfalls there and if you stay up in the town you may have the chance to experience something extraordinary. We took a wrong turn hoping to get to the waterfall and ended up in the town above and decided to park and wander around a bit. We ran into an older Greek man who took it upon himself to show us a bit about the town. We had nothing better to do so we followed him and he took us to see some of the most spectacular sights we've seen during our whole trip. We went inside a two hundred year old old house and he showed us some roman tunnels, it was truly an experience ee never expected. If you have an extra few hours we definitely recommend going and trying to find this man. Our stay at Athina's house was ten times better than we expected and we would definitely recommend coming here. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house was very tastefully decorated. It was the most spectacular mix of luxury and history that we've ever had the opportunity to witness. The host was very kind, told us about the history of the house, and stocked the house with amazing fruit and water as well as bathrobes and free handmade soap for every guest. If you have a chance you should not miss out on visiting this house.

Valia is an agent, Nikos is the owner of the house. Nikos is great and the house is beautiful! We really had a wonderful stay and had lots of fun in the house, it is even better than the photo's. Valia's English was a bit of a problem when organising the transport, she arranged us a transfer to the port from the Villa, we were 7 people, she kinda should know this because we paid for 7 people in the house but she sent a 4-seater taxi and we had to arrange another taxi almost causing us to be late for our boat back to Athens. But in the end it worked out all right. We also had a problem with check in, I told Valia almost 2 weeks prior to our arrival that we would be arriving a day later due to there being no boats/ferries going into Crete the day we booked, she refused to give us a refund, which we were alright with, but I later read the terms and it said she should of been able to give us at least a 50% refund for the day we missed. All in all the house was lovley, the area is very quaint and friendly. Very affordable and would definitely recommend.

Dear Erica, thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review and we are truly happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Regarding the issue that occurred with the taxi at your arrival, I would like to let you know that this was a misunderstanding made by the taxi company and not our office. However, it was taken care immediately, as a second taxi arrived within 15 minutes. As fas as the refund is concerned, as we were informed at last minute about the change in your plans and our cancellation policy is strict, a refund was not in order. Thank you for your kind understanding and we are looking forward to welcome you "home" again! Regards, ThinkVilla Team.
