Get away from the hustle and bustle of your lives in this rustic cabin with no TV. Limited cell phone coverage in the cabin with a landline located in the main office.

The space

This 20'x20' cabin was built in the 50's for the builders of the dam at Pactola Reservoir, and was moved from Pactola onto the site when the dam was completed. There is a fully equipped kitchen - microwave, stove, coffee pot, toaster, dishes and utensils. There is a gas grill that is shared with us and other guests. Linens and towels provided. Queen size bed and a full sofa sleeper. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and sink.

Guest access

The cabin is yours for the duration of your stay. There is a communal yard with a fire pit. The cabin is in Silver City and has neighbors. Our house, and main office, is right next door.

Interaction with guests

Many of our past guests consider our cabins to be "theirs". Memories are made in Silver City, as it is a community with a past of over 125 years. Guests interact with each other. We love getting to know our guests but tend to stay out of the way so guests can have their privacy, we let our guests dictate the interactions.

Other things to note

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at the Happy Trails Cabins. It was exactly what we had hoped for--a great change from the city. Rita and Tally were great hosts. They've put a lot of thought and time into their cabins with all sorts of small touches. We loved the flowers surrounding our cabin, and the cool rodeo photos on the wall. Rita gave us fresh vegetables and spices from her garden. Much appreciated! There seem to be lots of cooperating long-time friends in the tiny Silver City community giving the place a welcoming easy-going feel. There are beautiful Black Hills hiking trails within easy walking distance, and a swimming hole in the creek too. Although Silver City is off in the woods, you're just a few minutes from US385 so the location is within easy day-trip driving distance of all parts of the Black Hills, Lead, Bear Butte and so on. Our small cabin was clean and comfortable in a pretty 1950s style, with a sitting porch and quiet small community laid out in the pine trees around it. Imagine a sunny, dewy morning in the mountains at 6:00 A.M. and extend that feel all day, and you'll have it about right. Black Hills magic out your kitchen window. Thanks Rita! Thanks Tally!

Home was exactly what I was looking for. Quiet, simple and relaxing. Wonderful neighbours in a peaceful environment. Enjoyed walking to the creek and swimming. Still so much more to explore, I only just scratched the surface. On a side note. I suggest downloading some shows on Netflix, bringing a book or packing a game or two.

The cabin is a great place to relax after a day of touring, hiking, or exploring the area. Good central location in a quiet area so you can get away from the crowds and enjoy the fresh air. The cabin is small but comfortable for two. It is definitely in an out of the way location and the road going in is a curving mountain road. We used the cabin as a base to enjoy the area and will definitely return. Our only complaint was the listing showed Internet available and our confirmation included a network ID and password. However, there is no Internet and while Rita offered her iPhone as a hotspot, it didn’t work. Rita does have an amplifier for cell service and offered her porch for making phone calls. This was a bit of an inconvenience because I run a small business and needed to be connected. We had to do some adapting but were able to make things work.

This was exactly what we were looking for on our trip to the Black Hills! The cabin was amazing!! All the amenities you will need to cook, etc. Simple, comfortable and clean. And what I wouldn't give to have a cold glass of that water again! Silver City is an easy 5 miles off the main road, ensuring a quiet stay smack dab in the middle of paradise. Rita & Tully are terrific hosts, too! Great people! Do yourself a favor - don't book a hotel, stay HERE!

Tally and I have been together since 1985. We are both from Rapid City and met while bicycling. We spent our first 10 years together chasing bicycle races and the past 20 years hosting guests at our small cabins in Silver City. We love the old fashioned vacation - no phones, TV's. We have games and books in our places. I love to cook and be outside, Tally loves movies and eating my food.
