Welcome to the Lava Tree Bungalow, where the adventure of living in the jungle, meets modern convenience to create a memory of Hawaii that will be treasured for a lifetime. Here you will enjoy 5 private acres with the closest access to Lava Tree State Park on the island. Located just 5 minutes from Pahoa and the Kapoho hot ponds, 15 minutes from the active lava flow site, 30 minutes from Hilo, and 45 minutes from Hawaii Volcano National Park this is a perfect place for everyone to enjoy.

Guest access

All of the amenities in the house including wifi, as well as an outdoor firepit, gazebo, and horseshoe pit. Linens, towels, toilet paper, and kitchen supplies are all provided, we only ask that you bring your own beach towels and do not take the bathroom towels to the beach.

Interaction with guests

My boyfriend Connor and I live on a separate house on the property that is away from the Bungalow which allows us to accommodate your spacial and privacy needs. Whether you would like to be left to yourself or sit down and talk story we will respect and accommodate. We also have 4 wonderful small dogs that love to interact with our guests. One of us will try to be present at your arrival and you will be provided with our contact information upon arrival as well.

Other things to note

The Bungalow is in a secluded area, protected from most human created noise and light. Staying in the tropics means interacting with nature and all it has to offer. Please understand that many measures are taken to keep the Bungalow bug free, but some bugs are to be expected. The best way to limit this during your stay is by not leaving any food out uncovered, dirty dishes in the sink, or leaving the doors open at night with the lights on.

Staying in the tropics may also mean more humidity and rain than you're used to. Don't let the rain put you off, it is warm rain that you most likely won't even need a light sweater for. If you have clothes, towels, or shoes that need drying, make sure they are hung up and off the floor, they will not dry on the floor.

Finally, we have many native species that live on and around the property. You will be able to hear the coqui frogs song at night, geckos barking during the evening hours, as well as many types of birds and possobly the occasional Hawaiian Hawk. These animals stay away from the Bungalow, with the exception of the geckos. They will hang out with you inside, but don't worry they won't bother you. They eat the smaller insects and keep the larger ones away.

We hope you will enjoy your immersion in the Hawaiian Jungle as much as we do!

We very much enjoyed our stay in this quiet bungalow in the jungle. Secluded and private yet close enough to do any activity we wanted during the day, beach, hot ponds, volcano etc. Our hosts were very prompt to help with anything we needed or had questions about and gave great recommendations for local places to eat or visit. Comfortable beds. Cool breezes/trade winds kept it cool. If we make it back to the Big Island we'll definitely stay here again!

Jordan's space was perfect for our family! It was so nice to have a quiet space on that side of the island to retreat to after busy days exploring the island. Jordan was very friendly and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed every bit of our time there and if we return to the Big Island we will definitely be back!

We decided to stay in Pahoa for a few days before heading to the Kona side of the island for a conference, and are SO glad we did! Our stay at the lava tree bungalow was us a peaceful getaway, but also a perfect location to explore the volcanoes, tide pools, and local towns. Jordan and Connor were welcoming and helpful, while also giving us space and privacy. We definitely recommend staying here and hope to be back someday!

For my first time using airbnb, Jordan was so lovely and accommodating to our requests for a few things: I have bad allergic reactions to bug bites sos she stocked us with citronella candles and fly sticks; I wondered about smoothies and a blender so she bought a bullet for us to use which I appreciated! Her replies are prompt, and her BF Connor had greeted us since she was on a trip during our stay. He is also really great and helpful. Their dogs on the property are so funny and full of personality. So sweet, and helped me deal with missing our fur babies back home. About the property: while the photos made it look bigger than it was it still accommodated our party of 4 comfortably. 3 women and 1 man, there was no fighting over the bathroom here! We got to use the Lanai and the laundry amenity. Their yard is huge! Lots of space to run around. We chose pahoa because we were coming from Waikiki; we thought it would be a nice break from the touristy vibe. It truly felt like island living; beach house. It's pretty secluded where it is, so if you don't like camping or cottage life then you might not like it as much as staying in Hilo or Kona. But we still managed to get around and do our activities during the day. And expect bugs! But that goes without saying. Overall so happy with our experience here with Jordan/Connor/ Tink / Beems / Sunny / Butchoy. They didn't mind they're Nick names:)

Great place! Beautiful property and very clean and cute bungalow. Jordan was a great host and full of interesting Hawaiian information. A little further from activities like snorkeling, hiking, etc. but the seclusion and BEAUTIFUL property was worth the drive to things. Great value.

Jordan was a lovely host to me and my family. She was very responsive and helpful. The property was a nice size, and set up, with a nice lanai. Jordan kindly allowed us to explore the double story cubby house in a tree on the property. Would highly recommend the lava tree house to other families.
