The cabin is simply furnished with heirlooms. The view from your bed, looking down the river toward the hills is very special.

This delightful rustic cabin, furnished with heirlooms, is hidden away in the olive grove, with a magnificent view of the Waiohine River and Tararua hills. One room, very private. Bathroom facilities in house about 60 meters away. Breakfast incl.

The space

The cabin, although less than 10 years old, looks like a flashback to our forebears. It is insulated and cosy but no additional heat except hot water bottle. The solar power lights a simple light. All other services, including the toilet, are in the main house. Furnishings are about 100 years old apart from new mattress on my grandmother's double bed. Breakfast included in the $80 price for a couple.

Guest access

If the house is full, cabin guests will use the toilet in the utility area and outside shower with hot water. (About a 2 minute walk). However, all other facilities are available, including kitchen, lounge, media room, Wi-Fi and wood-fired pizza oven. Other shower available if no other guests.

Interaction with guests

I consider each guest my personal guest and I usually join them for breakfast. I try not only to enjoy their company but assist them with planning their trip or finding services which they require. I was born in the US and have lived in Canada, Latin America and Europe before moving to NZ over 40 years ago.

Other things to note

Parking is available at the main house or beside the cabin. See my website for other information about my home and area at olivehomestay. Children enjoy the spacious grounds and there is a short bush walk on the property and lots shade to sit under and enjoy the peace and quiet, except for the bird song

House Rules

I expect guests to treat my home as if it were their own home. Pets are allowed if they are well behaved around farm animals and can sleep outside on covered decks.
