About this listing

We are travel bloggers & thirty-somethings ;-). The last years we have been travelling through Africa with our truck. We would love to host you here in our typical Berlin flat with high ceilings and wooden floor - located in the vibrant quarter Friedrichshain. Your room is spacious, modern and the big windows let in lots of light. The location is very central (10 min with metro U5 to Alexanderplatz, Tram M10 to East Side Gallery + direct connection to airport Schönefeld).

The space

Our apartment is located in the popular "Samariterkiez" of Friedrichshain - only 10 min by foot to Simon-Dach-Str- & Boxhagener Platz. There are many shops, cafés, bars & restaurants nearby. Your room is big and cosy. The house ist a typical "Berliner Altbau" with high ceilings and floorboards. Your room looks out to the courtyard. The room has two big windows which let in a lot of light. The high quality mattress is really comfortable.

Guest access

No cooking! But you can use the coffee machine, the microwave, the fridge, the kettle and the dishwasher. Also we can give you recommendations for eating out - from restaurants to takeaways.
The bathroom you share with your hosts.
There is a washing machine, but please ask before you use it.

Interaction with guests

As travel bloggers and freelancers we work from home, so we have time to and answer your questions. Sometimes we might even have time to show you around in our neighborhood, if you like . We are looking forward to meeting travellers from different countries. When we are not travelling at the moment, we are happy to make travellers feel at home in our apartment.

Other things to note

- When you stay in our sleeping room, we sleep in the living room. You only share the apartment with your hosts.
- We can only give you one set of keys, so if you are two you have to share the keys.
- Our room is best for individuals & couples (for exceptions please contact us before instant booking and introduce yourself.)
- Our room is not the right fit for you, if you only come to Berlin to party every night.
- Check-in is only possible from 5 pm. Unfortunately you can't drop off your baggage earlier. (On weekends an earlier check-in & baggage drop-off might be possible - please ask us)

Very big room in a great location - close to transport, bars, cafes and restaurants. Communication with Verena was quick and easy, and she kindly accommodated my very last minute booking.

The great thing here is that we really stayed with the local. It is of course not like staying in hotel or hostel. The room is clean. The apartment have everything you need. Verena have the best way to explain where nice places is.

Verena was a very helpful host and she even waited for our late train arrival. The apartment is in a convenient area of Berlin. Transport station Samariterstr. is just 5-10min by foot, from where you get to Alexanderplatz and anywhere in Berlin. The only thing to be aware is that you can't cook in this place (which we missed in the description) but a supermarket is right on the corner. We had a great stay and would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the city independently. Have fun!

Verena is an extremely warm and accommodating host. From leaving us detailed instructions and information on how to arrive at her apartment to continuously providing us with information on the area. Her map of suggestions was very handy and she was always ready to help us with any questions we had. The room is quite large and comfortable with storage space for belongings and a table with chairs. Another lovely perk was the use of the espresso machine, which helped us jumpstart our city explorations each morning. The apartment itself is located in an amazing neighborhood with plenty of local restaurants and bars and very accessible to public transportation. We were able to walk to the RAW nightlife district as well as find a wide variety of food options within walking distance. Located about 2-3 blocks from the U, the location made it easy to explore other areas of the city as well. We enjoyed our stay at the apartment and getting to know Verena and hear about her own travel adventures!

Lovely place in a great location, ideal for both business and leisure trips. Area is super cool and close to the centre, being an hipster-y place itself, with good coffee shops, restaurants, and so on!

Pros: very quick communication upon booking, helpful pointers and tips on Berlin ahead of time, chance to see a unique side of East Berlin, guest sleeping space is large Cons: at times, I felt like the host was bothered by our presence...felt like an inconvenience rather than an Airbnb guest....we arrived just after other Airbnb guests left and it seemed like this was extra work on the hosts, flies in kitchen and bedroom due to open windows and no screens

Response from Verena:
Hello Victoria, you and your partner were new to AirBnB and had no reviews yet. Nonetheless I accepted your booking request, because I thought „everybody has to start...“ Judging from your behavior, you were not familiar with the idea of homesharing and made the impression on me that you booked an AirBnB rather then a hotel because your budget did not allow it. I agreed that you could drop off your luggage well before check-in and then you arrived at a completely different time without letting me know (even though you had free wifi in the long-distance coach). Yes, then I was a little annoyed. During your stay in our apartment you ignored many of our houserules and seemed annoyed by having to share the kitchen and bathroom which we clearly state in the listing. Furthermore you were very reserved and seemed not interested in any conversation with your hosts which is totally fine with us. Of course we leave our guests their privacy if they prefer that. But we were surprised by your review. We really enjoy being AirBnB hosts, meeting people from different cultures and as you can see in the other reviews, everybody else was very happy here. So we are sorry, that you did not feel welcome, we tried our best that you have an amazing stay in Berlin.

We are a German couple from Berlin, who work as travel bloggers, digital nomads & freelancers. Since 2010 we have been travelling across Africa in our 48-year old 4x4 truck. Now we returned to Germany to prepare our beloved truck for new adventures.

We love to meet people from all over the world and exchange travel stories. We love exploring cities by foot and just to soak up the atmosphere. Also we are real foodies and like to try different craft beers (especially IPAs) .
