A typical tuscany countryside atmosphere close to all the gems of the region (Florence, 25 min, Lucca, 35 min, Pisa 50 min, Siena 50 min, Pistioia 25 min., Forte dei Marmi, 50 min)

The space

Located just 15 Km from the centre of Florence, the Gello estate is situated in the heart of a property that consists of roughly 20 hectares of olive groves, surrounded by woodland: the perfect place to spend some time immersed in tranquillity and nature.
The location of the house is ideal for anyone who wishes to combine a passion for the Tuscan countryside with visits to cities of art: Florence, Lucca, Siena and Arezzo can all be reached easily on day trips.
The house lies in the Calenzano area and is approximately 15 minutes away from the motorway exit of the Autosole A1.

The Gello estate is a small holding comprising two buildings separated by an internal courtyard.

The house, the original nucleus of which is a tower dating back to the 14th Century, has recently been restored in keeping with Tuscan tradition and all the original fixtures and cotto red-brick floors have been preserved. A great deal of attention has been paid to furnishings and the general comfort of the home.

The house is on three floors and comprises:

-entrance/living room with a large open fireplace, kitchen, dining room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms at ground level;
-one bedroom in the 14th Century tower;
-on the lower level, a double living area that overlooks a large terrace and veranda area; on the same floor is a reading room, a room containing a wood-burning fire and two utility rooms (laundry machine)

Weekly rental includes bed linen and both bath and swimming towels.

The kitchen is well-equipped (fridge, dishwasher, a variety of utensils, etc) and allows for the organisation of lunches and dinners for over 20 guests. A well-equipped external barbecue is also available.

The property also has a 12 x 6 m swimming pool (maximum depth 1,2 metres) set among the olive groves that boasts a wonderful view of the landscape. There are sun beds and umbrellas poolside.

The estate is on unlevel ground due to the terracing of the garden and therefore children should be carefully supervised.

A car is necessary as the access road to the house is via a dirt track and is situated two km away from the nearest village with shops for daily provisions.

This is undoubtedly the best holiday home that my family has ever stayed in. Emanuele and Francesco's home is incredibly stylish, clean, comfortable, and huge - the photographs don't really show how large the house really is. The mix of modern and traditional decor really complements this beautiful house. My family (5 adults including an elderly person and one 9 year old) stayed here for just one week, but we really wished we had more time to relax in the stunning landscape. We particularly loved sitting dining outside and looking at the mountains, or sitting on the other terrace to watch the wild boar, deer and red squirrels. The grounds of the house are also quite large and we loved to walk around observing the wildlife. The pool is good for smaller children being a shallow (waist high) depth throughout. The road up to the house is very steep and narrow, so I would suggest hiring a small car to access the house. I was unable to drive up to the house, my partner was a lot braver than I! Although the house is in a remote location, with no other houses nearby, it is well connected some good tourist spots. Calenzano is just a short drive as well as Prato (well worth a visit). We drove to Calenzano to take the train to various places, since there is free parking near the station, and Calenzano is also well connected to Florence, Sienna etc. Finally, I'd add that Francesco and Emanuele and great hosts, so welcoming we really enjoyed their dry sense of humour. They were on site when we arrived and provided lots of tips for things to do in the area. We will definitely come again!

We were lucky enough to spend three weeks at Emanuele and Francesco's home. It's beautiful secluded place, with absolutely everything you need for enjoyable holiday under the Tuscan sun. Emanuele and Francesco were extremely helpful and incredibly easy to deal with. Everything as is described. It's a very special place!

We completely loved Gello from start to finish. We are a family of four with two teenagers. The house is beautiful and has amazing views and is very well equipped. We saw deer most days and heard wild boar, the bird song especially in the early morning was lovely. We had hot temperatures, 30 degrees most of the time, which was great for the end of May. This meant the appeal of the lovely terraces or beautiful grounds meant staying at the house nearly every day with a decision made to revisit the area for sightseeing on another trip! The complete privacy suited us well and the pool is brilliant and was a godsend in the heat. We picked fresh cherries from the trees and used the fresh herbs from the garden. The ease of doing a supermarket shop at Calenzano for basics and more plus local places in La Chiusa was great. We recommend the galato shop particularly! The restaurant in La Chiusa was very accommodating and we enjoyed lovely pizza and drinks on their terrace. The track to the house is not for the faint hearted but we loved it and it added to the feeling of leading to something special and exclusive. Most of all Francesco and Emmanuel were brilliant hosts answering every query and waiting for us when our flight was delayed by three hours. Grazie mille to you both. Go if you can.

We had a wonderful few days there, but the driveway was a nightmare , especially trying to get up at night very scary and very steep! We did have a big car I think with a small car it would be fine ! Other than that the house was just what we wanted to experience Tuscany and its beauty!

This is one of the most magical places we have ever stayed. The house is so charming and full of character. Our girls had an amazing time in the garden picking herbs and fresh figs and swimming in the pool. My only regret was that we didn't book it for longer. Emanuele and Franceso couldn't haven't been more accommodating and friendly. I hope we find ourselves back at Gello again someday.

You actually do not need many words when it comes to a feedback regarding this place. Incredible location, lovely decorated home, great view and I could go on like this for a long time. We really enjoyed our stay (party of six) and actually managed to relax starting right after our arrival (not many places which can actually guarantee that nowadays). Everything you need is in close reach by car - supermarket, motorway excess, Florence... etc. The house is equipped with basically everything - doesn't matter if we're talking about the kitchen (you are even allowed to use the fresh herbs from the garden), the bathrooms or anything else. So all in all - a perfect place for a couple of days of relaxation, while being away from the rest of the world but still being close enough to get everything you might need or want to see. Congrats to Emanuele and Francesco for providing such a great place.
