Spacious 3-bedroom modern family home close to Glenveagh National Park, famed for wild deer and golden eagles. 7 mins' drive from bustling market town & golden sandy Atlantic beaches. Donegal was voted Coolest Place On The Planet 2017 by National Geographic Magazine. On North-West section of Wild Atlantic Way. 15mins Dunfanaghy, restaurants including award-winning The Mill, Golf, horse-riding, surfing schools. Walk or cycle the newly opened old railway line on doorstep, through to Creeslough.

The space

Poised between the mountains and the sea, this splendid area of the Donegal Gaeltacht is a 15 minute drive from Glenveagh National Park with it's castle and golden eagle colony, or under 10 minutes the other direction brings you to the spectacular Atlantic beaches of Falcarragh's Five Mile Strand and the Tory Island ferry departing from Magheroarty. Don't worry, we couldn't pronounce these names at first either!

Guest access

All rooms and outbuildings apart from the office and attic which we will use as a store whilst away. Garden, swings, poly tunnel (it's nice to sit in even if you don't grow anything during your stay). Freeview TV, DVD and WiFi. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, and stair gates can be fitted, just let me know.

Interaction with guests

You will be welcomed whether arriving by car or plane and full information and a contact number provided. We may not be at the property during your stay but will be available to contact. We'd encourage you to share your experiences on social media during your stay and after you go, and we provide unlimited wifi in the house for your convenience. 2-week stay minimum booking unless by negotiation.

Other things to note

English translation of Jerome's review:

We were greeted with a fire in the stove and some food to cover the essentials (French wine, coffee, jam, etc.) and a full briefing of activities around. The house is completely in keeping with the description, spacious, very bright, comfortable and pleasant to live. We were 4, but were up to 7 for a week without bothering us. The house is situated in the middle of nature, with some remote neighbors on the edge of the Glenveagh nature park. The landscape is superb, peat bogs, Mount Muckish, and 2 km from the breathtaking beaches. The location is good for visiting all of Northern Ireland but we spent 3 weeks without using the car too much as the walks and landscapes are varied in the surroundings. Not to mention the pubs of the village ... The nearest village is 2 km away, and includes all necessary shops (bank, pharmacy, mini-market, etc.). We left very reluctantly after the traditional Irish farewells from Alan and his family. Again thank you Alan for your warm welcome and these 3 weeks we are not ready to forget.

If you are looking for a cozy and comfortable home away from home, in a nice remote place but with good access to many of Donegals breathtaking places, look no further :-). The Climate in the house is always very comfortable (not typical in Ireland) with enough heating and warm water to remedy any Irish weather. It has all the space and amenities you need in a warmly decorated house to make you quickly feel at home. Kids will love it too to play with doll houses, bricks, balls, the trampoline, in the large tub etc. Also the donkeys or cats nearby offer entertainment... Parents can be pleased with WiFi, Sky TV, the fireplaces or simply the sunsets :-). The house offers wonderful Vistas on Mt Mukkish and is nicely away from the next neighbors. Falcarragh caters to all basic needs and the beach is less than 10min drive away. If you want to spend time In Donegal (what I strongly recommend) and you want to have a beautiful house a little bit away from the civilization - this is simply perfect. Thanks Alan so much for being such a great hosts and that you let your nice home to us here on Airbnb (excellent instructions, communication, providing access to everything you could need in the house etc).

Very comfortable cottage in a lovely tranquil area but within 2 mile range of nearest village with plenty of shops, bars and eating places. Great location for anyone interested in chilling out, walking or hill climbing. Cottage is very cosy and having wifi facility was great. The cottage was a great base for a relaxing holiday with a very homely feel. The area has very good bars and several great eating places. loved the fact that cottage is set in such a beautiful peaceful setting yet a short car distance away from many great amenities. Would definitely recommend Alan's cottage to others.

I love travel: I think it's so important to pass on that gift to kids too. I train software development in the City of London. Clients include top civil service and fintech companies, and nothing pleases me more than to escape back to Donegal, the mountains and the beaches. …
