Welcome to our brand new guest house! Modern, light and airy, our place is located in the heart of NE Portland, and is within a ten minute walk to an array of restaurants, food carts, grocery stores, public transportation, bars and shops.

The space

The house is adjacent to our home. It sits quietly in the back yard and above our painting studio. It's an open, airy and modern loft-style home with reclaimed fir floors, shelving, vanity, and doors. The reclaimed Doug Fir wood was sourced locally and has the beautiful patina of time. The queen size bed has a super comfy natural latex foam mattress and in the loft there is a fold out sofa with a full size memory foam sleeping pad (Please note that the loft is not an appropriate sleeping area for younger children due to the stairs and railing). The loft also boasts wonderful views looking out over the neighborhood and is a wonderful spot to chill out with a book or watch a movie. The art collection includes works created by the two of us (we are painters/photographers) and by other local artists. You are also welcome to come visit the art studio downstairs. The kitchen is fully loaded with brand new appliances and cookware and each guest is treated with coffee, creamer, chocolate, fruit and flowers for their stay. We are within walking and biking distance to Williams Ave, Mississippi Ave, Fremont Ave and Alberta Street, and approximately a 15 minute bike ride to downtown Portland. Some of Portland's tastiest restaurants are close by including Pok Pok Noi, Ned Ludd, Tasty and Sons, Por Que' No, Aviary, and the list goes on. Acclaimed brewpubs are also abundant including Hopworks, Fifth Quadrant, Stormbreaker, Ecliptic, and Ex Novo. There are several bus stops within blocks of our place and New Seasons and Whole Foods are both an easy ten minute walk from our house so self catering is a breeze. We have two friendly cats and a Hummingbird who has taken up residency in our backyard garden which you are welcome to hang out in as well.

Guest access

Guests have full access to the house and the backyard. Guests are also encouraged to visit the painting studio when Michael is there.

The home is not available for commercial use or activities such as wedding activities/events, parties, business meetings, etc. If you are interested in photo shoots please inquire before making a reservation.

Please note *** This not an anonymous vacation rental experience. It is not a hotel. The house is in our backyard and you will encounter us from time to time as we go about our daily lives which is part of what makes Airbnb so special. Our home is your home! We are avid travelers as well and love to hear about your adventures here in Portland/Oregon.

Interaction with guests

Check in time is 3 pm and check out time is 11 am, but we try to be as flexible with guests if they need to arrive or leave earlier or later. One of us will always be there to make sure your stay is comfortable, but we do our best to give guests the privacy and space they need. We have lived in Portland for a combined 35 years so we are full of recommendations for places to eat, activities, bike rides and must sees. We are always available by phone/text to answer any questions or help out if needed.

Other things to note

We are family/kid friendly. We have a 5 year old daughter ourselves. There are two parks within blocks of our place to take the little ones. A library is close by. There are also several businesses that cater to kids and families such as the POA Cafe, OMSI(Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), the Oregon Zoo, and The Children's Museum.

Maximum # of guests= 3 adults. Or 2 adults and 1-2 children.

The sleeping loft is not suitable for smaller children due to the stairs leading down to the main floor and the bed's proximity to the railing. We do have a pack and play and can set up a bed in the living room for smaller children who cannot sleep in the loft.

The studio was for us the perfect space. We loved all the care and thought that clearly went into creating it. It is light and feels airy and sits above Michael’s art studio in the pretty garden of Michael and Felicity’s house. It would make a perfect romantic weekend retreat, but also has everything you could need for a longer stay. We stayed for two weeks and felt comfortable and completely at home: there was space to hang out, to cook, to eat, to sit and read upstairs looking out over the neighbour’s gardens (or watch Netflix). There is all the practical stuff you could need (a well-equipped kitchen and lovely bathroom, very comfortable bed, a heat pump, washing machine etc.) and lots of thoughtful extras such as fresh flowers, coffee, milk, wine, even chocolate when we arrived, plus a library of interesting books, useful travel info and even two umbrellas for the inevitable Portland rain. Both Michael and Felicity were incredibly helpful both before and during our stay and made us feel very welcome. The studio is located in a tree-lined residential area, parking was easy and we could easily walk to both Alberta and Mississippi/North Williams for plentiful food and shopping options. There is a Wholefoods Market a few blocks away, also a branch of the local New Seasons food market, an excellent Saturday farmer’s market and two blocks over a frequent bus service to downtown that we used regularly. We could have quite happily stayed for another two weeks!

Staying at Michael and Felicity’s place was a great experience and a real treat! Their place is beautiful and impecably clean, tasteful and organized! Michael, Felicity and Beckett were super hospitable, helpful and laid back at the same time. Thank you so much for making your place like a little home for us. We really enyoed it!

This is a comfortable, well-appointed, and amazingly beautiful home! Everywhere you turn there are lovely, thoughtful, and stylish touches. Convenient to all of east Portland, but also within easy reach of the Pearl District and downtown. I literally cannot recommend this home highly enough.

We loved our stay here and hope to be back one day. The location was perfect to hit up Alberta or Mississippi and while we did have a car, it would have been very easy to get around without one. You can use the yard if the weather is good OR hang out inside amongst the fantastic artwork. This place is great. Book it!
