Beautiful home in a beautiful neighborhood. We stayed 4 nights and I went on 3 early morning bike rides that were delightful. Many ponds and benches to sit on. The food was delightful, but the hospitality was only a 7. Could tell the family not 100% in favor of Raylene opening the house to strangers, and often felt like we were intruding. Home overly cluttered, adding another layer of feeling like my belongings didn't have a place. If you are very quiet and don't want interaction with your host, this would be a good fit. The bed was very comfortable and sleeping was peaceful. First 3 mornings, breakfast was set out, cut fruit, breads and cereals and yogurt to choose from. Then, Raylene surprised us by making a hot egg& potato casserole for our farewell meal AND she and Helmut sat down and ate with us. We enjoyed this very much BUT had not been notified ahead of time, good thing we didn't have other plans.

Response from Raylene:
I am truly surprised that you felt you were intruding and did not feel welcome. I have always been available to my guests and yet, I made sure that you also have your own privacy when you are home. Sorry if I made you feel that way but truthfully most of my guests are peole who have been to our home two or more times because they felt welcome and are now part of the family. You said the room is overly cluttered? Those extra blankets and comforters and towels are for the use of the guests as needed. You have unlimited towel supplies which other Airbnb homes will never give you.And I specifically provided tooth brush holders and such for your own use in your own bathroom. If you read the house rules and what you can use - you will have known. We even let you use our own private bath tub which is in our own private bedroom. You are the lucky one who was given that privilege. As for your breakfasts, if you read the house rules, it will tell you that we provide only cereals and fresh fruit plus unlimited tea and coffee for free- and yet when you were there, we let you helped yourself to yogurt and bagels and all sorts of bread. I always make hot egg casserole and frittata for my family on weekends and if the guests are awake and would like to join, they always can. Most of my guests have always avail of it and have become part of the family. Helmut is a very private person and has always joined breakfasts with the guests and have provided them a lot of information regarding the history of this beautiful historic triangle where we lived. If he was quiet, it is because he felt his privacy has been invaded with too many personal questions. I wish you more fun and more adventures in your next Airbnb experience. I hope the next one will be great as I know ours will be.

What a great experience! Raylene is such a great hostess that we instantly felt like we were home away from home. This was our first Air B&B experience and I think it will be very difficult for others to measure up to the high standard that Raylene has set! She made sure we were always comfortable and had anything and everything we could need. Not only that, but Raylene was very sociable and we made great friends during our stay. We certainly recommend staying at their home to anyone looking for a top notch B&B in VA!

My stay with Raylene and Helmut was just wonderful. They were very warm and gracious, and just great hosts. Their home is in a lovely neighborhood, and situated in a really convenient part of the Tabb/Yorktown area (close to main arteries and highways.) The listing was quite accurate, and the bedroom I stayed in was very comfortable with a great bed. The adjoining bathroom was also excellent. I heartily recommend Raylene & Helmut to anyone needing a comfortable and conveniently located place to stay while in the Hampton Roads area.

I am a retired Registered Nurse, originally from the Philippines who loves gardening, and world travel. Helmut is a researcher who still works at nearby Jefferson Labs. We both love to travel especially to Europe and Asia, visit botanical gardens and relax in the evening with wine and cheese. Our home has very simple furnishings but we would love to get to know people from all walks of life, learning their culture, history and heritage. You are welcome to join us for meals or social hours. Make this YOUR HOME while away from home. WELCOME to our humble home. We have beach kits /bikes for use if desired plus anything you need during your stay. Just ask.
