Spacious house centrally located in West Iceland. With lake and mountain view and well situated for Northern Lights. Rooms are comfortable and access to spacious kitchen, two bathrooms and a lounge with a fireplace. Fossatún is in the center of the West region, 140 km from Keflavik International airport, 98 km from Reykjavik and 20 km from Borgarnes. Ideal to travel from in different directions, Borgarfjordur area, Snæfellsnes Peninsula or Thingvellir National Park.

The space

The three double rooms and one twin room come with bed linen and clean towels. The room is equipped with a flat screen TV with a inbuilt DVD and CD player and a radio plus water basin and mirror.
The shared area of the house includes two bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen and very nice living area.

Guest access

Guests have access to hot tubs, Troll trail and other leisure facilities. Breakfast, lunch, coffee and dinner is available the Fossatún Restaurant. (open from June to September)

Interaction with guests

We live at Fossatún farm (across the road from the receiption) and work and play at the Fossatún receiption/restaurant. Always around and ready to help out any way we can.

Other things to note

Check in at Fossatún in daylight and enjoy the surrounding and facilities on offer. Northern Lights viability depends on solar activity and cloud situation. Star bright high activity=good possibilities. Weather can change fast in Iceland. All main roads are kept open through winter but can close temporarily f.e. in a sudden blizzard. Snow does not come and stay as it also rains quite a lot during winter.

What an amazing place. We had to check in early because of a major wind storm that shut down the roads/airport. The owner was kind enough to message us about road closures ahead of time so we were made aware. We rode out the crazy storm in the most comfortable, quiet, secluded guesthouse. It’s what dreams are made of! I would love to not only return but have my own home be like this Airbnb.

Guesthouse was a very cute cabin with a well equipt kitchen and a very lovely living room with a fireplace. Only issues were that the Wi-Fi didn't work, and there were mice in the walls as well as mice poop in the bed which was off putting.

Response from Steinar Berg:
There are mice outside in the Icelandic country site. But there is no way for them to get inside the guesthouse unless guests leave door open. It is the first time we hear that mice may have been inside walls, and we will check that. Again this is an extra well built and tight and warm house.

We stayed in the guesthouse with 3 other couples and we didn't hear a thing. Great room and beautiful scenery. We even saw Northern Lights, which was a great plus! Perfect kitchen with everything you need to cook food bought from the store.

The guesthouse was nice, big size and comfortable. We shared it with three other couples but it never felt cramped. The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner and breakfast. Hot tubs available were nice after dinner. Great place to see the northern lights on a clear night since it's kinda in the middle of nowhere.

My boyfriend has emergency thorastic surgery and we were stuck in reykajavik. I let the host know as soon as I found out that we couldn't make it- on the 30th and again on the 2nd. We were booked from the 4-7. No refund was given at all and he couldn't bother to respond when I asked for a full or partial refund, which I thought was really rude. Is it really so hard to just say 'no, sorry??'
