Vala's house was a perfect base for our explorations of South West Iceland. The house is charming , great atmosphere - a real home. Vala and her husband were on hand on greet us, made us feel very welcome and ensured we knew our way around the house. It is very well equpped and all in all was a delightful and perfect house for our Icelandic holiday. The house is very private yet only a ten minute walk from the Geysirs and all the tourist facilities that are beside them (shop, restaurant, etc). Very happy to recommend it as a great choice for a stay in this area.

This review is not about the house which we really enjoyed (except the rooms were cold) but about a misunderstanding about the heaters. Vala was very good before the trip, but once we left, she sent a complaint to airbnb and wanted to charge us $80US$ because we left 1 heater at level 5. The rooms were freezing even in August and maybe someone at the group left heater at 5, but it would be Valas's responsibility to check it. She asked me if all the heaters were left untouched and i honestly thought so, maybe it was not the case, but if it had been in the rules of the house and i knew that electricity was so so expensive, then i would have personally verified them all myself. Nonetheless she said i was not truthful for not telling her that i left 1 heater at level 5 ,this i found insulting and very stressful, since (1) it is her responsibility to check (2) i had to respond to her request for $80 within 5 days from my mobile phone while trekking in Iceland. On a personal note, I found out through the Electricity Company Iceland that the average monthly bill for homes is $(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)US a month. Thus $80US extra charge for the additional electricity from level 2.2 to 5 of the 1 heater for 1 night (there are at least 5 heaters that I remember) puts the monthly bill of this house at $12000 US$ (just for the incremental electricity of having heaters from level 2.2 to 5 , and it puts her total bill to around $(URL HIDDEN) Again, this is my personal calculation.

Wow, what a lovely and stylish Scandinavian style chalet, with a huge open plan pine feel. There is a large covered patio area at the front with a gas barbecue. Easy walking to the geysers along a path through the open countryside.
