Restored 1938 home with original oak floors. You will have this sunny and homey house all to yourself. It is in a very quiet neighborhood and only 3 blocks from the Ohio River and the River Walk. There are a couple of restaurants that overlook the river and within walking distance. We have plenty of grocery stores, pharmacies, gas, and a theatre in the Newburgh area. We're only 10 minutes from east Evansville. Newburgh is a great walking town with historical houses and civil war history.

The space

The house was built in 1938, by the Herr's, and they raised eight daughters and one son in the home. We are the second owners. The house has been updated and the original oak floors have been brought back to life. The house has never been smoked in. We have a lot of children at Herr House, so for safety issues the gas stove was disconnected, but there is a microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, tea maker, toaster, iron and ironing board. There is no WiFi.

Guest access

You will be given a key when you arrive from the hosts. We will show you around and answer any questions. We love meeting all our guests in person and sharing our love of the house and the town.

Interaction with guests

There are flyers or websites for nearby restaurants in a basket on the counter in the kitchen. A couple of the restaurants are overlooking the river. Most will be in walking distance and so is the River Walk so remember to bring your walking shoes. We also have some brochures in the magazine rack in the living room that will give you some history of Newburgh and if you are game, a walking tour of historical buildings and homes in the area.
There is no WiFi.

Other things to note

We do not allow pets in the house, however there are two dogs in an enclosure outside that will let you know they are there if you come home after dark. They are sweet old dogs, but great watchdogs.

This is a great little spot to spend a weekend in a quaint little town. We were visiting relatives and it was wonderful to get away to our own little place for some "down time" at night. We were surprised there was no wifi or cable but we were so busy with activities with family we didn't miss it. Good hot water in the shower, although it is an older home so not a lot of water pressure. I also did not realize the stove was not available for use. (I make stovetop espresso.) But the rest of the family were fine with using the coffee maker. We would stay here again and the price is more than reasonable!

This was a very nice home away from home for myself and my sisters. The location suited our plans perfectly. The home was lovely as were the hosts. We hope to return!

Wonderful hosts! The location in Newburgh is grea(URL HIDDEN)short walk to the riverfront and shops. The home is very clean, quiet, and comfortable. I especially liked the choice of delicious coffees and teas. If we're ever back in the Evansville/Newburgh area we would definitely stay at Herr House again.

The house was just as cute as could be. It was very clean and comfy. Darlene is a great hostess and met all our expectations. The area is very neat with walkways on the Ohio River that can't be beat. Local places to eat were friendly and delicious !!!!

We had a very pleasant stay. The house and town were charming. We had planned to travel to Evansville a couple times, but ended up hanging out right in Newburgh the entire holiday weekend!

We wee unfamiliar with Newburgh and booked late. Darleen and Scott were very accommodating and welcome us to their beautiful historic home, telling us its history as well as the town. Very interesting place. The furnishings and facilities were immaculate and convenient, the bed comfortable. The are is safe and quiet. We had a nice walk to the river and had a good dinner at a place they suggested. Highly recommended.

We are an outgoing couple who love to meet new people and love to travel. We enjoyed the Airbnb experience in Europe while visiting our granddaughter who was studying abroad with UCF and we are anxious to share that experience here in Newburgh, Indiana.
