Zophiel and his family were fantastic! They were accommodating, open, and very personable. Their space is comfortable and accessible, they unexpectedly and graciously fed me two meals, and in the evenings I found myself kicking back and picking some guitar with Zophiel or playing with little Palmer and his ma. Would absolutely stay again!
There was a little miscommunication and a lack of contact on the day of arrival which was a little frustrating. Prior to requesting a reservation I messaged the host and clarified that we would have a late arrival and early departure, and I wanted to make sure that would be fine. On the day of arrival I messaged the host several times, and also called/texted without any answer. We found the location fine and knocked on the door - it seemed like we unfortunately woke he and his wife up. We felt bad about waking them but had already paid for the reservation - and it was late after a flight and were unsure what else to do. They were super great and accommodating/welcoming once inside. They had said his phone was acting up - which is out of anyone's hands - but a heads up or a different form of contact would have made things much smoother. All in all the stay as brief but nice - the space was cool and roomy, and we felt comfortable in their home for the 6 or so hours we slept there.
Response from Zophiel:
Ashley informed us a week in advance informing us she would be arriving late. I responded immediately that we looked forward to her arrival. On the day of her reservation she messaged us only twice. Her first message reconfirmed the previously discussed arrival time. ("Our flight is due to arrive a bit after 11, and we need to pick up our rental after 11 then we will be on our way.") There was no new info, so I saw no need to respond. She must have assumed that our "flexible check-in"times meant that we would wait up for her, unfortunately, we have a four year old son and jobs, so we went to sleep on this couch next to the front door. I am sorry that she felt insecure about ringing our doorbell, but she should not have felt that way, I already told her that we were looking forward to her arrival. (Are you saying you felt bad about waking us up, but you would have felt better about it if we waited up and got even less sleep? I don't understand the complaint...some hotels even have a bell to ring at night.) I guess she could assume we were lying about welcoming her into our home but I don't know why she would want to feel that way. I missed her second message when she asked if there was parking on the street because we were asleep on the couch. In hindsight, the question of parking does not seem time-sensitive, and obviously it was a matter that resolved itself when they arrived and parked the car. Finally, my phone wasn't "acting up," it was completely dead and not fixable. It was not something that could be resolved that night or day. How do I give a heads up to someone I don't know, when all my phone and email info was gone? I am sorry that ashley felt a little insecure. We are always flexible with checkin times but that does not mean we are going to stay up all night. If you say youre gonna be here at 12, I will only ever give my word one time. If I say I am gonna be here at a certain time, you can keep asking as much as you like, but I will only give my word once. I am here to accommodate and be friendly, not to coddle or be micromanaged
Zophiel is a great guy and he family is very kind! I felt welcome in the home and it's the first home on my journey west where I felt comfortable singing and rehearsing my music! That said it's important to note when booking that there are two dogs in the home (very friendly though one is quite large) and that Zophiel does smoke in the home. I wasn't anticipating that so I was a bit thrown off by the smell of smoke in the room. The room IS spacious and felt quite comfortable besides that and I enjoyed my stay there. I got keys to the door and I felt comfortable going in and out. This is a family home so no party people should apply as there is a child in the home.
Response from Zophiel:
We should clarify that no one smokes tobacco cigarettes. The only smoking is medical marijuana (clearly stated in my listing). Unfortunately, Arizona Revised Statutes limit my use of medical marijuana to my own house. If I had a pacemaker or used oxygen tanks, it would require of the guests different considerations. I cannot imagine anyone complaining of those other medical necessities. I hope people can understand.
This was my first airbnb and it saved me money and time as I just needed a quick place to sleep and go. I was just here for the baseball game and a late movie. Zophiel was nice and chill when we first met he has this vibe that he's like an old friend that you are visiting. And I had the worst times to get in and out as I was just in for the day but Zophiel had flexible schedule which is greatly appreciated other places or listings have certain times and I got in after midnight and left before 6am and I ended up arriving earlier to my house thx to this. The room were I stayed in was BIG I mean I've stayed in hotels with smaller spaces and this has that familiar I'm home feeling. I can't describe the bathroom or the rest of the room besides the comfy bed I was in and out.
