This is a perfect place if you prefer to stay in a beautiful natural setting removed from traffic and noise, but it is easy and convenient to get anywhere in town. The house is comfortable and spacious, and has a lot of Japanese custom woodwork that impart the space with a calm atmosphere.
The room features a sleeping nook with a comfortable queen size mattress, there is a comfy lounge chair, smart TV with Netflix access, AC, closet and a large desk.
The bathroom is mostly private.

The space

This room is in a comfortable and beautiful custom home with lots of artistic details. Located in one of Santa Fe's most stunning natural surroundings off the historic Old Santa Fe Trail. It is a 8 mile, 14 minute drive to the Plaza, but the drive is relaxing and beautiful, the neighborhood is safe and the nights are completely quiet, with amazing sunsets and starry nights. This is a perfect place to stay if you love being in nature, but not too far from town. Included is ample closet storage and a private full bath, laundry, use of the beautiful and well equipped kitchen, dining room and a fabulous landscaped outdoor space. The room has a bed with a comfortable queen size mattress, soft sheets, there is a comfy reading chair, DSL Wifi and a flat screen TV with Netflix streaming. Sorry, no cable TV.
Breakfast is not included, but there is complementary coffee and tea, toast and spreads if you didn't bring groceries. You are welcome to use the kitchen.
Harry's Roadhouse, one of Santa Fe's most popular restaurants with down to earth prices, is just 2 miles away on the way to town.
If you enjoy exercising, there is hiking right out of the door, some of the best cycling in town.

Guest access

Main door into the common area. The room is in the opposite wing to my live and work space, so there is a good deal of privacy.

Other things to note

Please keep in mind that there are no stores or restaurants within walking distance. There are three popular and reasonably prices restaurants about 2 miles away, but the closest grocery or convenience store is about 4 miles away.

After turning off the historic Old Santa Fe Trail there is a private 400ft long single track dirt and gravel road, with a couple of slopes. No problem for any vehicle if there is no snow, but on certain days in the winter it can be a challenge. So between December and February I strongly suggest only booking if you have a four wheel or AWD vehicle with good tires and basic snow driving skills.
There is no street lighting in the area. GPS does a great job getting you here, but it's easier to find the right house in daylight.

Guests are welcome to use the kitchen, which we try to keep clean and neat. I would expect guests to have the curtesy to clean up after themselves, and ideally leave everything the way they found it.
An important note about winter bookings. While snow clearing on the main road is pretty reliable, the same does not apply for our driveway, which has 2 short climbs in them. So unless you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle with decent tires and experience with driving in snowy conditions I don't recommend booking with us in the Months of November until February. Even in October and March there is a slight chance of snow coverage.

I feel so lucky to have stayed at Amalesh's home for 6 weeks while working in Santa Fe. The house, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom are clean, warm, and quiet. The sunsets from the back porch over SF are stunning. He has great recommendations that kept me busy during my days off and I was able to experience parts of Santa Fe and New Mexico that I never would have found on my own. Amalesh is such a special person and I will cherish the time I was able to spend at his home. If his home is available for the days you are looking for, do not miss the opportunity to stay here!

From the moment I arrived through the end of my one week stay, Amalesh welcomed me into his lovely home and was a terrific host. The room and accommodations were just as wonderful as described. Not only did he offer me freshly baked bread, I enjoyed coffee every morning and was able to keep my own provisions in the refrigerator and cupboards. Amalesh helped me when I didn’t know which hiking trail to take and accompanied me to the start of the right one! His doggie Roxie was a sweetie and I enjoyed both their company. As I’ve lived in Santa Fe in the past, I appreciated Amalesh updating me on some of the newer restaurants and things to do and see in town. He was so very helpful and I will highly recommend his home to my friends and acquaintances visiting New Mexico. Overall, an excellent Airbnb experience!

Amalesh has a beautiful home, full of personal touches and an awesome dog. We had a private bathroom and a quiet comfortable room. Everything about his home is amazing, and Amalesh is a kind, considerate, and generous host. He recommended really fun things to do in Santa Fe and the perfect camping spot that we hit up after checking out of his place. I would not hesitate to book again if I was visiting Santa Fe.

What a delightful location and space Amalesh has created. His home, views and surroundings are absolutely stunning. It was the perfect spot for me to rest and get some writing done. He is an amazing gracious host and one how posseses an amazing creative essence. He even took the time to mark up a map for me to offer suggestions as to locations to visit on the rest of my trip through New Mexico. Thanks Amalesh!

Amalesh is a thoughtful, communicative host and a respectful roommate. I found his home extremely comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and I especially enjoyed the patio and view of the surrounding mountains and sunset. The hummingbirds in the lavender and lilac were a joy to witness each morning with my cup of coffee. I had privacy but also Amalesh was very helpful and available for conversation about the area (my first visit to NM.) He makes great French press coffee! I enjoyed his companionship and our conversations on philosophy, Zen and building. I appreciated access to the kitchen and had a place for my own groceries and use of the laundry facility and guest WiFi. There is a moveable wall-screen for Netflix in the bedroom, but I preferred my notebook so I could use the headset. And it was easy to be comfortable and take personal calls in the bedroom. I liked being outside of town so that I could appreciate nature and the quiet. It was not difficult getting into town, Eldorado or to the foothills to visit Ten Thousand Waves. And Taos was a great day trip from there. I had such a good time! Tips: (a) The dirt road off of Old Santa Fe Trail added some excitement getting up the side of the mountain to the house. I was glad I didn't attempt it in the dark the first time (as my host recommended) but arranged to arrive while it was still light. (b) I wish I had brought my own pillow. I forgot that even in hotels you often only get the big, stuffed ones that don't work for some of us who like to shape and mold for the neck. I feel so fortunate to have gotten to stay in Amalesh's home!

About Amalesh

I am a easy going and non judgmental person - respectful and polite. I am a professional furniture maker, and work out of my home shop most of the time. Don't worry there is no issue with noise - the wood shop is far removed from the rental.
I like people and I am always interested to get to know guests from all walks of life, but if you prefer to stay private, I have no problem with it whatsoever. Sometimes if I have to work a lot I tend to be a bit of a recluse. Other members of our household includes my fabulous 16 year old son. He is very brainy and an amazing acoustic guitarist, very well mannered and friendly. He lives here every other week. There is also our very mellow and sweet natured Dalmatian.
