Escape to the country and a quiet rural village situated on the side of a mountain inside the Brecon Beacons National Park and in an area of special conservation.

Featured in 'In the Footsteps of Alexander Cordell' by the author Chris Barber, Poppy Cottage is a charming 18th Century 2 bedroom stone cottage once occupied by quarry men and iron workers. The perfect country retreat and haven to discover with a myriad of outdoor activities combined with beautiful scenery right on your doorstep

The space

Situated in a rural setting on the side of a mountain in South East Wales with Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon and Cardiff all within easy reach. There are countless activities in the area, from gorge walking, mountain biking and walking; and for those brave visitors, there are also more extreme activities nearby such as sailing, kayaking scrambling, caving, horse riding, and rock climbing.

With a courtyard garden offering stunning mountain views, forest walks, and mountain streams, right outside the frontdoor, there's no need to get back in your car. The Brynmawr to Abergavenny cycle path is also just a short distance away.

The remains of the original iron works, viaduct, and the largest preserved forest in Europe are again within walking distance, and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is just a 5 minute drive away.

Pure cosy cottage comfort 'Poppy Cottage' accommodates 4 - 5 visitors and caters for families, couples, or groups of walking or activity enthusiasts. If fresh air is what you're looking for this is the place to come.

The main bedroom provides a luxurious king size bed, with comfortable bunk beds in bedroom two. If required an additional fold out guest bed and / or travel cot can be provided.

The living area provides seating for all with the modern day convenience of a flatscreen 'Smart' TV and free Wifi.

Complimentary tea, coffee and milk is provided for all guests, and guests are welcome to help themselves to a bottle of wine from the rack (please replace before you leave)

The cottage also has a separate shower and bath with ample towels and guest toiletries provided.

A lovely cosy cottage in the perfect location for our walking break in the Brecons. Nicky was a very welcoming host, and the freshly baked loaf in the bread machine was a nice surprise.

Nicky's place was wonderful! Communications was great and she was there waiting for us when we checked in with freshly baked bread. Nicky's place is a perfect little oasis in the Brecon Beacons and I can't say enough about how much I loved the cottage. I would highly recommend this awesome listing!

Poppy Cottage, was a great base location to explore the surrounding areas. The traditional cottage itself was an adventure for our kids, with a double bunk and the small spiral staircase. They also enjoyed the available books, games and dvd's. Nicky is a professional host, preparing freshly baked bread and flowers and personally greeting us on arrival. I would not recommend Poppy Cottage to older visitors with mobility constraints, due to the narrow spiral staircase and single downstairs bathroom.
