The space

Room "A" has a queen bed and view East over Quartermaster Harbor.

On the waterfront of outer quartermaster harbor, and built before there were roads on the island Marjesira was once an inn, general store, post office, and one of the Mosquito Fleet steamship stops. Now its main access is a short shell strewn trail past the garden, and a flight of 63 stairs (please take note of this if stairs are a challenge for you). To come down the trail, stairs, and walk through the doors of Marjesira, is to step back in time. Over a hundred years old, it maintains a charm and rustic elegance in a craftsman style. You will see the remnants of a time before; fixtures from the gas settling lamps still adorn the walls. Its east facing covered porch is a favorite place to watch the birds, otters, or the early morning sunlight dancing on the water. The top of Mt Rainer peeks up over Maury island on the other side of the harbor.
The two bathrooms are shared by the quests (one has a large claw-foot tub, the other a shower.) The old floors are creaky and the walls are thin: so light sleepers may find it challenging dependent on the other guests staying at the time.
Located about a mile south of Burton, 4 miles North of the Talequah Ferry, 5 miles south of Vashon town, 10 miles South of the North end ferry to Fauntleroy and Southworth, Marjesira is on the 118 bus line. You could come stay down on Magnolia beach the whole time, or use Marjesira as a base to explore the Island, Tacoma, Seattle, or the extended beauty of the Pacific Northwest mountains and waterways. It is a great place for pre / post hiking ,biking, or kayaking adventures.

The hostess , and outdoor cat live on the premises.
The most common descriptors of those who have spent time at Marjesira : magical, nurturing, healing, (URL HIDDEN) is a great place to gather or to get away. Come experience it for yourself.

Guest access

Marjesira has WIFI .
A well equipped kitchen and extra refrigerators are available for guests to use. Other common spaces: the Great Room has a large table that extends for many, and a sitting area with rockers for all.... the parlor has an extensive library, a piano, many musical instruments, and a wood stove to cozy up around when the temperature is cooler. There is a wrap around porch with lots of seating, a hammock, and views. Decks off of the kitchen and the upstairs, and a dock out front, offer more lounging space. Miles of beach are just out the front door when tides allow.

Interaction with guests

My work schedule is irregular. There may be times when our paths do not cross. When I do get the pleasure of meeting you, I will likely follow your lead as to how much you want to interact.I will gladly give suggestions for your stay on the island. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting the many people that have graced Marjesira through Airbnb.

This is a great weekend get away. You can relax to the sound of the tide changing and the ducks to wake you up in the morning. We sat on the large deck at night and watched the planes land and take off at SeaTac airport, without the noise. The local restaurants are very good and we enjoyed sampling their menus. We also visited a local winery and sampled some of their wares. It's a great place to go to get away from your devices for the weekend.

If you live in Seattle and don't have a care you can get there in under 2 hours and for less than $10 on weekdays which is fantastic because it's a bit remote. This was perfect because all I wished to do was a lot of reading and relaxing. However, getting to stores, restaurants, parks or hikes will require some planning as even the closest bus stop is a 30-minute walk along a highway with no sidewalk or lights. Side note to that: the bus will drop you off near the Inn if you ask in advance, which is especially nice after dark, I even saw the bus driver pick people up between the widely dispersed bus stops but rather than risk it I just trecked to the bus stop each time I needed to. All these are non-issues with a car and it's wonderful to have the option to escape without one. The Inn itself is rustic and filled with all sorts of beautiful old things to look at. There must be at least 50 comfortable spots to lounge about including a shaded wrap around porch, dock, living room, and den. The hosts are warm and friendly. It's a wonderful, convenient, get away from the hustle and newness all over Seattle.

The Marjisera was a great find! Affordable, great location right on the water, and a beautiful house full of interesting books and dark wood. The view was incredible and we enjoyed sitting on the porch all evening. We got around town by bus which worked perfectly for us. The host was great, and we enjoyed the bagels and coffee she so kindly left for us. We'll be back!

Jacqui User ProfileJacqui is a superhost.

I have lived on Vashon for about 33 years now and am still finding new places to explore.. A Jacqui of many trades, my primary work in the last 14 years has been home-care. I add to that a mix of : leading wilderness trail crew programs with teens, fine artist, teaching partner dance, tile installation, sweater repair (the latest addition), energy healling......I love music.....love dance of all kinds....love being outdoors working or playing.
Being a home caregiver has developed my skill of unobtrusive presence. I am sensitive to others needs and know when to make myself scarce, but am very capable of engaging and assisting when desired and needed.
Kiya will be tending to Marjesira July 10 - September. She looks forward to meeting you and helping you have a wonderful experience at Marjesira while I am away leading a trail crew in Alaska.
