The space

Our family owns 2 cottages directly on Lake Ontario, in this little cove side by side. The first cottage was purchased over 30 years ago by my parents. During that time we were fortunate to have both the farmland behind us and the Girl Scout camp next door be purchased by NYS parkland. Beavers took over the farm pond, bald eagles are nest on our point, wild and beautiful walks in the park, where old growth forests and nature abound. Maxwell Creek and bay are part of the park making kayaking, canoeing and fishing great fun. Campfires and great swimming make it a tremendous spot.

As peaceful and wild as our location is it is only 3-4 mils from the lovely little port town and resort area of Sodus Point/Sodus Bay. with numerous marinas, a public sandy beach and pier to hike, restaurants, playgrounds, a lighthouse museum and more.

Fruit farming is the main industry. Awesome farm markets with fresh strawberries to pick in spring, raspberries and peaches in summer and APPLES in fall. We are the largest apple producing county in NYS. Peaceful Rural fun that is Sodus, Sodus Point, Sodus Bay and the entire area around our Secret Cove.

This place was the perfect getaway for me and my husband. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. Definitely can not beat the view. The house was neat and had all the amenities of home. Jan was a great host, met us when we got there and had plenty of suggestions of things to do in the area. The fact that we were able to bring our dog with us, was great. We will definitely be back in the spring or summer.

We love to share with great folks and particularly love people who love the outdoors! Karen and her husband were definitely the kind of great people who like to hike, slip a kayak in for a ride, skip rocks and enjoy a campfire. Simple pleasures are the best and so glad you got to enjoy the weekend. Thanks we look forward to having you back!

I was treated to a splendid cottage on the lake exactly as advertised. My wife and I repeatedly commented on how we couldn't ask for any more. The beach, shore, campfire site, outdoor patio all made for a relaxing and beautiful location in the lake. We will make this an annual retreat, with Jan as a gracious host.

What a Great place! Beautiful view. Quiet Neighborhood. We stayed here in the first part of June where you never know what kind of weather you are going to get and the lake was too cold to swim but perfect for paddling and fishing. The house is well stocked with everything you need. This is a get away house, all you need is firewood and food. There is a long drive way to many houses this very welcoming family own. Jan met my wife at a time that was convenient to get keys and she was very accommodating. We loved the wrap-around deck that enclosed and allowed free range for the dogs. If you have a small dog less than 20 lbs they may be able to get through the slots. But for our dogs it worked nicely. It's so nice to have our four legged family members to stay with us and it added to the experience. There's nice grass to walk them and trails near by. Keep em leashed because there are many houses with dogs in the neighborhood. The walking trails are a huge plus, and not far from the house at the end of a trail is a marsh where you can put a line in and we caught a few. The beauty of this area can't be overstated! The lake fire we had was accentuated by a storm of lightning clouds, truly spectacular star show late at night as well. We couldn't have picked a better spot for honeymooning. The beds are comfortable and the house is suited for about 4 adults comfortably, but more can sleep if it's a young family. There are single beds to sleep up to 6 and the couches are comfy. We had all adults visit and use the kayaks at the end of our stay. We had are own kayaks too and as kayaks go, these are nice to paddle down to the creek not too far away and cove. We explored the state lands where the trees had fallen in the water. You know the storms come fast at the lake, but there are plenty of life jackets and even a double kayak. There is a waiver which just goes to show that the land owners care. The lake can get rough, but for our stay we did get out on some beautiful calm waters to fish and kayak. Neighbors on one side are renters too and seemed very nice. The lawns are big and we could see they had a fire but couldn't hear them. There are some great skipping stones on this beach and I'm sure during the warmer months great swimming. I would recommend this house to a good family who appreciates beauty, lake and quiet. Overall, this was a very good first Airbnb experience and we thank our hosts for sharing their beautiful home with our family. We will be back! Thank you Jan and family for the delicious wine too!

I am the youngest of 4 children in a large family who grew up playing at this our cottage in Sodus NY. We still gather here each year for the Forth or July week. I love nature and the arts including Photography, Pottery, Jewelry making, travel and outdoors activities. I have 2 now college age children and live with with my husband in Rochester NY. In fact it was my college age son who used Air BnB who said ..."hey mom get on Air BnB with the cottage"!
