This is a really special place to stay in San Pedro and only a short walk away from the bus terminal and centre. It's quiet, comfortable and has all the amenities you need as well as looking very cool with great outdoor spaces including a roof terrace. Carolina & her family were amazing hosts and really went the extra mile for us. It's hotel quality with a hostel vibe!
A great place to stay whilst in San Pedro de Atacama. Slightly away from the hussle & bustle of the town centre makes this an ideal location - close enough to walk but more relaxed and quiet. Carolina's place is like a little hidden gem. Good kitchen and facilities. Rooms are cleaned and comfortable. SPdA is not a cheap town in general but Carolina's place offers good value for money.
If you can book here you have found a small pot of gold in the Atacama rainbow. Thoroughly recommended. Our host Carolina is a very clever lady, speaking Spanish of course, and very fluent English. We had a very quiet room with a double bed and private bathroom. Tranquilo! Hot water was kind of a lottery if we left our shower until late, but since we consider any water is a luxury in San Pedro de Atacama, that's not a complaint, just an observation. Carolina's home has a wonderful common area, very cool under cover, where we enjoyed reading or just chilling in the afternoon following a day touring the deserts. There is also an elevated observation deck that might be better in cooler months. Carolina keeps the common kitchen area clean, as well as the laundry/washing machine area. We enjoyed the 500m max walk to/from the town square, meeting smiling local people often. We felt very safe even after dark. Do yourself a favour!
Our first airbnb disappointment, and a big one. POSITION : VERY GOOD ACTUALLY. One of the rare positive points (if you like San Pedro de Atacama). Not far from the town center, but still enough to be away from the tumult. However, don't expect calm with all the wandering dogs that turn in the city. DESCRIPTION: NOT TRUE AT ALL. The place is absolutely not quiet, for the reason above, first, also because Carolina's dogs bark as the other ones and nobody makes them stop. There's merely no sound damping here, you can hear your neighbours open and close the drawers in the room next to yours, and you cannot sleep when there's a party in Carolina's house until late in the night (despite her own internal rules). COMMUNICATION: VERY DIFFICULT. From the very beginning, it was. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map doesn't place the street at the right place (don't follow it!); no indication on airbnb to reach the house, so after 1/2h looking for our way and asking people in the street, telling Carolina this issue when we finally arrived, she just replied "oh yes, I know"... This apart, globally, we've got the feeling that we were disturbing her. CLEANLINESS: NOT TOO BAD, BUT FAR AWAY FROM PERFECT. The rooms are pretty clean although you can expect to find hair from somebody else in your bed. The kitchen is not clean : rest of food in plates and on cutleries. The worst case is likely the shared bathroom: the shower is dirty, and the bins in the toilet (in Chile, most of the time you cannot throw your toilet paper with the water) haven't any cover, so you profit from the guys who came before you. Hard to understand what happened: her comments on airbnb are not to bad, though, and they absolutely don't reflect the experience we lived. We met many wonderful people during our trip in South America, and we stayed in many great places, so maybe that's the reason why the difference with Carolina's place has been that tough for us. It might also be possible there's no better place in San Pedro de Atacama. However, and above all for that price (not good value for money at all), we would recommend to keep on looking.
