The Rooming House is a lot like the city in which it resides: quirky, cozy, inviting, communal, and experiential. It’s a safe and relaxing space for adventurers to sleep, spin records, talk, explore, and meet fellow travelers from all over the world. Curious to know more about what makes the space so great? Read on below. :)

The space
There are a lot of Airbnb listings in Bisbee. So why stay at The Rooming House? We can think of about a hundred reasons, but we’ll start with 5:

1. You want an authentic Bisbee experience
The Rooming House was built at the turn of the century and each of our eight rooms housed a rotating shift of three Bisbee miners. That’s a lot of sweaty, smelly men!

Everything about the flat is original: the trim, the wood floors, even the brass numbers on the doors! We like to imagine the people, the sounds, smells, voices, hopes, and dreams that must have filled the house more than a hundred years ago. Close your eyes and travel back in time.

2. You want to experience what it’s actually like to “Live like a local.”
Isn’t Airbnb’s newest marketing tagline “Live like a local?” Stay with us and you’ll do exactly that.

When we took a chance and moved to Bisbee on a wing and a prayer, The Rooming House was our first home, and boy, was it a world away from Detroit! Bisbee streets are narrow—sometimes we had parking directly out front, sometimes we had to park a little bit up the street. There were stairs to climb. There were eight rooms we could rattle around in. There were bars, restaurants, and Bisbee characters only two staircases away! It blew our minds.

Every day felt like a new adventure—and a little bit like a David Lynch film—and it still does. Most of our guests at the Rooming House echo this sentiment.

3. You want to meet cool people and connect
The Rooming House is a shared space, which means that you’re bound to bump into some interesting folks. Guests have their own room with a lock, but the rest of the flat is shared. If you want complete privacy, The Rooming House probably isn’t for you. But if you’re open, willing to listen, learn, and share yourself with other people, our space is going to be your jam.

We’ve hosted people from all over the world. In fact, we still swap texts and emails with many of them, and often visit former guests (now dear friends) in our own travels. None of this would have been possible without the dear old Rooming House!

4. You like vinyl
Over the years, we’ve built up quite a record collection. Nothing gives us more pleasure than to stop by and see guests drinking wine, talking, laughing, and spinning some wax together. We hope you’ll make use of our collection and fill the space with music.

5. You want to interact with your host
As Airbnb users and avid travelers ourselves, we often reflect on the most memorable Airbnb moments we’ve had. You want to know what always distinguishes a memorable stay from all the others? Those in which we stayed in a shared space and actually interacted with our host. Sometimes we like complete privacy and the feeling of anonymity—but on the whole, we want to share, learn something, connect with, feel appreciated and taken care of by our host. And you know what? Whenever we stay in a shared space with our host, this almost always happens.

We do not live directly on sight these days, but we always have an onsite co-host who loves both the space and our guests as much as we do. Want to know the best places to eat and drink? Ask our co-host. Want to know where to find the best view of Bisbee? Ask our co-host. Want to see a warm, friendly face after clocking a few thousand miles on the road? Our onsite co-host will always be there to greet you, chat, and get you settled in.

Guest access
Aside from a private room with lock and key, guests have full access to the rest of the rooms in TRH. A fantastic common room for vinyl listening, cocktail sipping and movie watching, full kitchen, dining room, balcony out front and outdoor back patio space give you ample options for relaxation and fun!

It’s hard to say just when the moment occurred for both of them, but let’s just say it was sometime in the winter of (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) that Tiffany and Ryan decided that they couldn’t do “it” anymore. The nine-to-fives, the commute, the neck ties and collared shirts, the mortgage, the debilitating Michigan winters, the traffic, the noise, and on and on the list goes. So here’s what happened: They both took risks. And for some reason, they continue to be rewarded for it. In early (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , Tiffany moved to California and began working for a family-run farm and bee rescue business. She slept in a “gypsy wagon,” harvested honey, gardened, fed goats and chickens, cooked, ate well, and after spending far too much time living inside an office, she started to remember what it was like to be human again. Around the same time, Ryan sold his house, somehow managed to keep the job he tried to quit (but with an added perk: he could work remotely), put everything he owned into storage, and drove 2,358.9 miles through snow and hail to meet Tiffany in California. For a month they traveled, hiked, slept early and woke up early, drank beer, and looked for a place to settle. God knows how they ended up in Bisbee, but here they are. And since arriving in April (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , there hasn’t been a day that they aren’t grateful to be here with each other and their two pups, Gus and Olive. Turning their eight-room flat—which was, at the turn of the century, a rooming house for miners—was Tiffany’s idea and indeed, it was a good one. Thanks to AirBnb, Tiffany and Ryan have met some of the most memorable and fantastic people they could have imagined. They are truly grateful for the opportunity to share their home and a little sliver of their lives with guests from all over the world. They named our little B&B The Rooming House for the simple fact that it was, quite literally, a turn-of-the-century rooming house for Bisbee copper miners. Rumor has it that the building has also been used as a bakery and brothel. If only these walls could talk. The Rooming House has eight rooms in total; three of them are reserved for guests and an on-site caretaker lives in the fourth room. Check out their (Hidden by Airbnb) @theroominghousebisbee
