Entire country house with heaps of outdoor space. Vineyard next door, creek at the back, no neighbours. Amazing location if you're into wine, concerts & food, or just want to chill out.
Mt View is the range which forms the edge of the Hunter Valley. Away from the touristy buzz, but go a few minutes drive down the hill to get to some of the most amazing cellar doors and restaurants. Pokolbin is on one side, and Wollombi & Broke the other. Grab some wine, and come back & relax.
There are three bedrooms:
Bed 1) 1 x double bed
Bed 2) 2 x single beds
Bed 3) 1 x double + bunk bed (2 singles)
There is a living room with a couch and a few arm chairs. The TV has a DVD player with some kids DVDs. There is a fireplace which is pretty nice to chill out in front of.
In the kitchen, there is:
- a fridge / freezer
- cooking stove (electric hotplates)
- microwave oven and small round convection oven (there is no conventional oven under the hotplates)
- various appliances like a toaster, sandwich grill etc
Outside there is a BBQ area, and some more chairs to lounge around on.
There is a gas BBQ - to turn it on make sure you press down the capacity dial on the gas tank. There is also an outdoor cooking area, with some grills and outdoor cooking gear like cast iron pan etc. Please check bush fire alerts, and be sensible and take care especially on windy or very hot days.
You can explore the creek at the back of the house- that paddock is part of the house. Go out the back gate into the paddock, cross the creek and climb to the top of the hill (up to the fence line). Just remember to close any gates- at certain times of the year we keep cattle there.
There are plenty of animals if you look carefully - from Platypus, Monitors and Eels in the creek, Wedgetail eagles above and of course plenty of Kangaroos and Wallabies. There is a family of Kangaroos that have developed quite a taste for grape vines - they spend their days munching on our neighbours vines, and then sleeping it off in the sun in the paddock behind the house.
Interaction with guests
Our house is a bit further up the valley, and please give us a call on the landline if there are any issues or questions. The phone number is written on the phone in the living room. If a small voice answers the phone, just be persistent, don't listen to their bad jokes, and ask for Ben or Sarah.
Other things to note
This part of the Hunter was originally a volcano, and the valley the house is in was the Caldera (the bit in the middle). If you look carefully, you'll probably find some fossils of bones, plants and sea creatures. On the hill behind the house there is a large wombat hole- he/she seems quite good at unearthing interesting rocks.
The valley we're in was all one farm (Yarramie), and gradually subdivided. This house was the original farm house (since renovated).
There is only patchy mobile reception since we're in a valley, and no Wifi. That might be a good thing or a bad thing. If you need to make a call or check messages, go back up Mitchells Rd and you will start to get reception.
- Please take your rubbish with you. There is no regular service. If you're unable to, we can remove but there is an additional fee of $60
- No smoking inside the house.
- You're welcome to make a fire in the outside bbq or the fire pit in the middle of the back yard, just don't leave fires unattended.
- Please remember to shut any farm gates.
