Beautiful 2200 square foot antique home with three full baths. Set on spectacular grounds and offering privacy along with the convenience of being close to all amenities. Enjoy lounging by the 1+ acre pond, reading in the garden near the babbling brook or having a bbq on the stone patio!

The space

Built in 1829, our brick Federal boasts two cast iron claw-foot bathtubs (and another bathroom with a shower), a fully-outfitted kitchen, a separate dining room and, finally, a den with a flat screen TV (nb: we have no cable or satellite service but you can bring your own Roku or Apple TV device). Outside you will find a shaded wraparound porch, a large Belgian block patio off the kitchen (perfect for barbecues), three bridges over the brook and a large pond at the top of the property. Surrounding it all are lush gardens with many perennials, flowering bushes and fruit trees.

Some of our favorite nearby destinations:

Guest access

The entire 2.5 property will be accessible to our guests (except for the house attic and our garage, which we use for storage).

Interaction with guests

Larah, our co-host, who lives close by will meet you upon arrival to go over some of the systems (it's an old house). Larah will be your main point of contact but we will also be available by text, email and/or phone in case of an emergency.

Other things to note

The property is on a main road, although the house sits 75 feet off the road and there is a 5' high solid wood privacy fence that runs along the road. It is visually very private but there is some road noise (although not up by the pond, which is quite far from the road). If you will be traveling with children, please let us know so that we can answer any questions you may have about this. Also, there are four window air conditioning units. However, if you are someone who prefers to live in a 'refrigerator' during the summer, this house is not for you.

We take great pride in the house--we did much of the work ourselves--so we expect that people who rent it respect that. And while old houses have survived a long time, they can be slightly fragile (and have some quirks). We allow a maximum of six guests mostly due to our septic and water systems.

The home is tastefully appointed and features a perfect blend of historic beauty and modern convenience. Although the home was originally built when John Quincy Adams was president, it features a modern kitchen and baths, along with other comforts we expect today. In addition to the living space, the outdoor spaces are beautiful and well maintained. The two-plus-acre property offers dozens of places to appreciate the outdoors of the country surroundings, including a large pond, a small lily pond, a wrap-around porch, a patio, wooded areas, grass and wildflowers. At the same time, it's close to shopping and entertainment. Susu was an accommodating host and left a few staples in the refrigerator along with a list of activities to satisfy most peoples' interests. The home provided our family a great opportunity to relax and reconnect over Labor Day Weekend before putting summer behind us and heading into the new school year.

Susu was a pleasant host, she provided all the info we needed to have a very memorable family get together at this wonderful property. The house is old (really, really, historically, colonially, splendidly, old) so there are some oddball quirks to the architecture but it's fun to explore the house -- the owners have obviously made this a labor of love and it shows -- its decorated with charming objects, tons of books and funky furniture. The outdoor property is stunning and we had a good time sitting outdoors and grilling steaks on the grill. Our kids absolutely loved the separate cottage with sleeping loft and spent most of their day playing house there and exploring the pond and creek areas. The property is close to a busy road but you hardly notice it due to the way the house is sited and how the property and porches frame the landscape. We taught the kids to play croquet (does anyone really know the rules to this game?!?) and we would definitely come back again to hang out for the weekend, a great value for the space and beauty of the property.

Susu was an excellent host. She responded to inquiries promptly and made herself available, but also left my wife and I the necessary space and privacy to enjoy our stay. The house was perfect. It is an old house with many unique characteristics (wide-plank floorboards, etc.) that my wife and I enjoyed discovering. The house was obviously well cared for and everything functioned properly. The home itself is large and the grounds are spacious. I would have no reservations staying in the home again!

Susu's place served as a perfect base of operations for our visit to the area. It's a charming house, really comfortable and well-supplied, in a lovely setting and a location that's convenient to everything!

Susu's house was everything promised and more. The house was beautifully furnished and spacious, and the backyard was vast and flowers were everywhere. Susu was very accommodating to our group's needs. The house was antique, but it had all the modern facilities. There were three full baths, but only one shower. The steps to the upstairs were a bit thin, so might be a bit challenging to some.

Response from Susu:
Thanks for your kind words about our house and property. I'm happy someone finally included that in a review, as all of our Airbnb guests have said, upon arriving, "This is so much nicer in person--you've undersold the house in the listing". So thank-you! About the stairs: I've never heard anyone mention that but if you felt they were challenging then I guess they were challenging! I did just measure them and the front staircase treads are 32" wide and the kitchen stairs are 37" wide. I'm not sure what the standard is these days but I suppose that's one of the quirks of an antique house.

Susu's place is incredibly charming, beautifully appointed and overall a really lovely place. It was the perfect setting for a relaxing long weekend. The property is really wonderful with lots of spots to nap or read a book under a tree, big lawns to play croquet on, etc. The house was beautifully appointed and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook some big meals. Susu, was a great host, was really helpful in getting directions to us and letting us into the house. Overall a wonderful experience!!
