I have stayed in dozens of Airbnbs in many different parts of the world and I can honestly say I've never stayed in one that I felt so happy or so ‘at home’ in. I don’t just mean all the quality furniture and amenities, I mean the ‘feel’ of the place; it was so relaxing and calm and had such a happy vibe about it. Staying at Abdullah’s house really felt like you were staying at your best friend’s house who had just popped down the shop. Selma who greeted me was just divine, so friendly and warm and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect; including a thoughtful welcome card, milk, juice AND a bottle of wine in the fridge ;) with pods of coffee by the nespresso machine and cupboards full of tea, herbs and condiments… you seriously couldn’t have wished for more.
The beds are so comfortable; I slept like an absolute dream in the main bedroom, it even had the same ergonomic pillows that I have from home which I was thrilled about. Everything in the apartment is of the highest quality; linen, towels, mattress, washing machines, sound system, everything… if you need it, Abdullah has it. The ensuite shower is a real treat; once I worked out which tap was for what, it was incredible; jets coming from the wall, rain shower above… very lush indeed.
London blessed us with beautiful weather which made the back garden hard to leave, in fact we didn’t leave. All the plans we had for going out, we cancelled just so we could stay at ‘home’. We ended up staying in and cooking in the most well equipped kitchen I’ve ever seen in an Airbnb. Being on the garden flat means there is a flat above you, and like all old stately homes in London with timber floors – a beautiful feature in itself - you can hear footsteps from the people above, it’s a normal part of city living and easily rectified with earplugs if you are noise sensitive. For me it wasn’t an issue at all.
Abdullah’s house manual was also fabulous, so comprehensive and professional; even made a non-tech savvy person like me able to use the modern entertainment system. Please note though that Abdullah’s apple TV account is still logged in – he has it on a trust basis - and I accidentally rented a film on his account. I immediately informed him and told him I will leave the money incurred for him, he was totally cool about it and said that is what it is there for. So nice.
Seriously, whether you are travelling or you live in London and just want the perfect 'staycation', this is the place to come. To quote a cliché, it really is a home away from home. Thank you Abdullah and Selma, your ‘gorgeous, sunny garden flat’ couldn’t have been more perfect for our needs.
