In Cori, beautifully situated in the Monti Lepini just south of Rome, you can experience an Italy far from the tourist crowds. This charming house was built about 500 years ago and has undergone a recent renovation.

The space

This charming house was built about 500 years ago and has undergone a recent renovation. It is located in the historic central district and has excellent access. With a car you can drive directly to the entrance to unload your luggage or groceries.

A single flight of stairs leads from the street to an independent entrance, which opens onto the living room. From there, French doors lead to a small balcony furnished with a table for two, where you can enjoy the view over the trees and across to the "castle." Located just off the balcony in the storage room is the washer.

Back inside, take the beautiful spiral staircase down to the kitchen or up to the bedroom. The kitchen is very well-equipped and includes a dining table for four. Extra chairs can be added to seat up to six people. The full bathroom, with shower and bidet, is located on this floor as well.

The bedroom is a charming sanctuary where you will feel as if you are nestled in a tree house. It is furnished with a comfortable queen (in Italian, matrimoniale) bed with nice linens, cotton blanket, and down duvet. On this floor you will find a small closet with drawers and a half bath.

Cori has several excellent restaurants and cafes within walking distance of the house. A weekly open-air market takes place every Friday morning. We are on the parade route during festivals and enjoy a bird's-eye view from our windows.

Due to the staircase and to the balcony height, this house is not suitable for young children. It is most comfortable for two people sharing the queen bed, but the sofa in the living room converts to a single bed if needed.

My stay at Deirdre and Erik's home was magical. The view from the kitchen table out across the hills to the castle and beyond is stunning. The well-equipped kitchen made cooking up local produce a joy. The second bathroom on the third level, adjacent to the bedroom, is very convenient so one does not have to negotiate steps at night. The bed was comfy and, again, there are stunning views out of the windows. Best, is the convenient location. Step outside and you are a short walk away from the piazza for a bite or an espresso or shopping at the local food market. You can easily walk to different levels of Cori down, up or down, and find great restaurants, friendly, local cafes and gelato to your heart and stomach's desire. Cori is also located where it is easy to pursue day or overnight trips to Rome, Gaeta or Naples or to some of the closer, smaller towns, like Norma or Sermoneta. A car helps but is not a must. Overall, a beautiful home in a small and friendly town with endless history, art, architecture and dining to explore. Deirdre and Erik's home is lovingly re-modeled and lacks no amenities. They are prompt and generous with their knowledge and responses to inquiries. Buon viaggio!
