You’ll have the cabin to yourself.
Fabulous porch with swing, glider and room to feed the whole family while watching hummingbirds at your feeder. One of a kind woodwork. 1326 sf of indoor living space. Central AC/heat. Walking distance to Coronado National Forest hiking trails.

The space
In 1990 my grandparents built the current home which they nicknamed Hummingbird Hill. It sits at a high spot in the canyon which lends itself to beautiful mountain views, sunsets and hummingbird watching. It was their dream retirement home. The home itself was custom built by Richard Lansky. You won't believe the detailed woodworking. Richard still lives in the canyon and helps me with maintenance. I have recently inherited it and can't bear to part with it - not only because of the memories but also because of the unique building and location. My husband and I are not able to move to the canyon right now as we have jobs out of state, but hope it can become our dream retirement home as well. The home is surrounded by the Coronado National Forest. Property is walking distance to trailheads, picnic areas and favorite birdwatching spots.

Guest access
Freestanding cabin on 1 acre. 1326 sf of indoor living space. Central AC/heat. Full kitchen, laundry in basement.

Other things to note
Please note: There is no TV reception (we do have a dvd player). Metered Satellite Internet is provided (but not unlimited). This is a remote property. Your cell phone will have limited connectivity in the canyon (Verizon works best). There is a VoIP telephone in the cabin. While there are two gift stores in the canyon, the next closest businesses are 15 miles away. I recommend you get gas and stop at the grocery store before you drive into the canyon. Don't forget to buy a bag of sugar to make syrup to feed the hummingbirds!

Location

Madera Canyon, Arizona, United States

Madera Canyon is a natural gem and it is minimally developed so you will have tons of opportunities to enjoy nature. The cabin is on private property but borders Coronado National Forest land on all sides. There are a handful of residents in the canyon and it is a popular weekend spot for people from Tucson so you will not be completely alone, but there's still plenty of space for solitude. I love some of the local businesses that rent out by the night, but this is truly the best place for an extended stay as it has a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facility.
