A beautiful new (nut-free!) house designed by award-winning local architect John Donkin and built in 2013 by premium custom home builder Crossford Construction. Bright and airy, with huge windows and space to relax. Found in the heart of Little Italy there are dozens of restaurants in walking distance, coffee shops, and the beautiful parks surrounding Dows Lake. The bike path along the Rideau Canal will take you directly down town and a new path along the O-Train takes you to the Ottawa River.
With nine foot ceilings on the second floor, the master bedroom has a view of down town Ottawa with a king-sized bed, walk-in double vanity and gorgeous double-nozzle rain-shower. Two kids rooms with adjoining sliding door, the pink room with a bunk-bed and a trundle bed in the blue room. Note: the kids rooms (Blue and Pink) do not have doors! A bathroom with skylight in the kids bathroom with a full sized deep tub.
The open concept main floor has ten foot ceilings with a large kitchen table that will seat 8 to 10 people easily. The kitchen is large with plenty of counter space for cooking and all new appliances - be warned, however, as we are tall and the counters are 39 inches high! The living room features a shaggy rug for the kids to lie on, sofa, two reading chairs and a gas fireplace for some extra ambiance. Through the patio doors is a large covered deck with lights, table and chairs, outdoor speakers and a bar-b-que. There's room in the yard for kids to play.
Built into a slight slope, the front door to the house is actually in the 'basement' although you'd never know it with so many windows. The family room there is full of toys, books and puzzles for the kids, a PS3 for the gamers and Netflix if you just want to kick back in front of the 42" LCD TV. A spacious fourth bedroom in this lower level has a comfy Queen-sized bed and a large bright window. A third full bathroom serves this floor.
There's wireless high-speed internet and two sets of speakers to AirPlay your own music to through your iDevices. Our VOIP phones means it's no problem for you to make local or even long distance calls in North America.
We have 1 king, 1 queen (the Tree Room), 2 singles in the Blue room and 2 singles (one of which is a bunk bed) in the Pink room. So you can sleep seven adults and one child over six (in the bunk bed), or four adults and four kids or some mix thereof. We've comfortably slept 10 and if you pull out the air mattress or crash on the couches there's actually room for many more.
Come be our guests! It's an amazing space like no other in Ottawa. Don't stay in a hotel! Bring your family here instead. We're sure you'll love it.
The house is exclusively yours. Access to kitchen, speakers, telephone, wifi, bar-b-que, back deck, TV, PS3, washer and dryer.
Interaction with guests
Given this is our home, we are very interested in who our guests are and what brings them to Ottawa. We typically exchange many emails prior to your arrival both in making the reservation and while making arrangements. We will do our best to meet you upon arrival but otherwise will not be around during your stay. Once you are here the space is your own to relax in and enjoy. We'll always be available by phone, text, or email.
Other things to note
This is our family home which we rent out to Airbnbers when it is convenient for us. Sometimes this means we have an opening in our calendar without any firm plans to be out of the house. If we can't quickly come up with plans, we'll decline your request. We apologize ahead of time for the inconvenience!
Also, because it is our home, Rachel and I are very interested in you, who you are traveling with and why you are coming to Ottawa. If you have never stayed anywhere else with Airbnb, the less likely it is we'll approve. The more information you can provide us, the more comfortable we'll be, the more likely we'll approve. We hope you understand!
Our daughter has very severe allergies, and as a result have never brought certain foods into the house. As such, we'd ask that you (and your co-guests) do not bring in anything that contains peanuts, tree-nuts (you know, regular nuts of all types), sesame or poppy-seed into the house. If the package says 'may contain' - that's no problem, but otherwise avoid bringing these items into the house. We appreciate your understanding on this.
Beyond that, treat it like it's a new house you just built for yourself and we'll all be happy! Please no smoking and ask about bringing pets.
Rachel and I have two lovely kids and have just moved into our dream-home. We think you should come stay here when you're in Ottawa!
We're avid cyclists choosing bicycles over our car any time we can. And our location is excellent for getting on the bike paths of Ottawa.
