Contemporary rustic house in a traditional rural village in Tuscany. You will love your stay!

The space

This is a truly rare opportunity to live in a traditional rural village in Tuscany and in an authentic rustic house rich of history and memories. As I won't be able to spend time in my house in Vagli Sotto over the summer, I am considering to rent it.

Ideally you are an open individual, respectful of cross-cultural traditions and appreciative of authentic life and space. You could live in alone, with your partner, your kids, your pets or your friends. You might be an artist, a writer, someone on sabbatical who needs to access creativity while living in a very inspiring and relaxing environment. You are looking to stay long period from 5 days up to one month.

The house is also the perfect base to appreciate the pleasures of simple village life and explore the surrounding countryside. You will be immersed in the outstanding heritage of this exceptional medieval stone village at a time when the traditions of the Tuscan countryside are under threat.

The house is situated in the oldest part of the village next to the main square of San Regolo which host the old church. Vagli Sotto makes a perfect experience for those who enjoys authenticity, simplicity, slow pace of life and nature.

The house itself is rustic, simply furnished but comfortable, sleeping up to five people. The house consists of a large dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a large studio area, and two double bedrooms. The dining area leads directly on the large sun terrace ideal for breakfast, dining “al fresco", reading and relaxing.

The house is overflowing with books (arts, literature, philosophy), family pictures and has two wood burning stoves on each floor to keep it warm mainly at the beginning of spring ( April & at times in May depending on weather condition) and the beginning of autumn ( end of September and October). There is a washing machine but no dishwasher or television. The house is wired with free wireless WiFi, so you can play your own music directly from your iPhone or Mac.

In the village there is one coffee shop/newsagent. There is also one family running rustic restaurant and pizzeria less than one minute from the house. You can find the Post Office, one bank, one chemist, two rustic restaurants, one gelateria (ice cream shop) and one local shop for simple groceries and local products 10 minutes away the historical central. There is a bread delivery to the village each morning at 10.30 am in front of the bar Good Evening and a grocery van comes once a week. Another family running restaurant with breathtaking view is 15 minutes driving distance in the oasis of Campocatino.

If you think this is the right place for you, please drop me a message and I'll get in touch with you as soon as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you,

We stayed for six days at this charming place and it was just wonderful! We enjoyed the atmosphere in this little village and felt very welcome. The house is amazing and if you like cats you will love this place even more. We are looking forward for our next stay! Thanks Catia!

When I looked at the pictures of Catia's apartment, my first thought was that there is no way this place actually looks like that, but it does! Catia was accessible for questions all the time and very helpful, although she doesn't live there herself. A friend of her (Anna) helped us with the check-in and everything worked out perfectly. If you are planning to do daily trips from there to Luca, Massa, Cinque Terre or the beach you have to consider that it always takes you one hour to get down the mountain. All in all I can highly recommend Catia's apartment!

Catias house ist just wonderful! Amazing, what she has done with her grandfathers original tuscan stonehouse. With her perfect sense of interior design it has become a place of peace and harmony. You will find everything you need in the kitchen and the bathroom. The dining table is placed as center of the house, the two bedrooms accessible via stairs, are quiet and dark enough to sleep very well. The absolute highlight of the house is the beautiful terrace! The one half is always in the shadow, which is so great in the summer (we were there in August). In August 2017 the lake, which surround the village normally, was completely empty because of the heat. The communication with Catia and Anna, who is helping Catia, was really fast, warmly and courteous. We highly recommand this place to everybody who is seeking calm, style and originality. Thank you, Catia, for sharing this place with the world!

Located in Vagli Sotto, a small village 1.5 North of Lucca. Cute village, hardly no tourists, very local and calm. In the middle of toscanian life! Old style house, you must know. Very tasteful and cute decorated with style and love. Catia was a very nice host, even though her friend checked us in. It went all perfect. An absolute recommendation! We loved it! Be aware of the curvy roads! The lake is currently almost dried out..

Incredible house in the most peaceful and beautiful location. Vagli Sotto has it all! What a discovery?! I'm so grateful to airbnb for giving me the opportunity to stay in such a rare, ancient village. Also Catia is the most welcoming hostess with incredible interior design talents. Her house is a real gem, and you will find real peace and inspiration, while absorbing the typical, Italian village ambience. I wish I had booked a longer stay but I will surely come back to walk the surrounding mountain peaks and paddle in the lake and have drinks with the friendly locals by the pool... or just chill and read a dozen books in Catia's leafy terrace!!! Thanks again! We loved it and we ll be back soon!

Born in Garfagnana and currently living in London with my partner and our daughter.I am passionate about family histories, traditions and nature conservation and in 2009 I restored my grandparents' family house in Vagli Sotto. One of the most exciting adventure of my life!!Vagli Sotto is just an amazing place on earth and I go back there as many times as possible to reconnect with my deep route.I love every expression of life and when I travel I get the most out of it by interacting with the local culture and embracing differences and commonalities!
