Other things to note

We ain't fancy, don't try to be, don't want to be. If you're lookin' for fancy, if you need fancy, you'll probably wanna go somewhere else.

We only say this because we want you to enjoy your vacation even more than you do. We want you to be happy wherever that is.

We are rough around the edges. Our house that is a hostel is 140 years old. It's in decent shape, we try our best to make it pretty... but it is 140 years old.

We are a hostel. We are young. People here drink and laugh and play music on the front porch and back deck. We have dinner nights with our local friends and new friends that are our guests at the Hostel. We'd love for you to be a part of that.

Sometimes it's quiet, sometimes it's not, but we do try to keep it under control. The crowd changes every couple days, so we make no guarantees about who your hostel-mates will be.

Please be aware of these things as you consider where to stay. Again, we want you to be happy and enjoy your vacation. We hope that it's with us.

Had a wonderful stay at Stella Maris's Hostel! This was only my 2nd Airbnb and my first hostel opportunity. Birdie did a great job as on-site staff management. I was there for three nights and saw her cleaning the rooms and remaking the beds as needed. I really liked the local maritime decorations, large international map, and room names. Also had fun meeting travelers at the hostel from Australia and Netherlands. The location was great for enjoying walks down Front St. Plenty of kitchenware dishes and pans were provided. A few of us had fun cooking a big breakfast the one morning (and cleaning up afterward). Can't wait to come back and bring a friend!

This hostel was one of the best experiences I could have ever had. I never even thought of staying at one until this trip. I met some incredible people from around the world. The location was a short walk to downtown and short drive to the local fish markets. There were even guest books with logs by people that stayed there. Never using a hotel again if I can help it and I will be back to this one for sure.

The place was clean enough and I though communication was good. My concern was that two guest in the female room were loud, obnoxious and they kept turning on the light even at 2am. They didn't seem to be open to discussion. Ended up sleeping in my car most of the night and I chose not to stay the second night. Do the private room or bring a large enough group to occupy the mixed dorm.

Response from Stella:
Sorry about your dorm mates those nights. We do have those small individual lights on each dorm bed that they should have used, such a pain for everyone that those guests were being rude. We do try to screen people when they book to make sure we won't have trouble, but you never really know how some people will act. It is one of the inherent risks of staying in a dorm at any hostel throughout the world. Sometimes you meet awesome people who become your new best friend, and sometimes people turn the light on at 2am. Luckily, those people only stayed a couple nights and moved on:)

We had a great experience at Stella! The hostel is exactly what it claims to be and perfect for a laid-back and inexpensive trip with friends. We liked that we were able to walk to shops, restaurants, bars, and breweries. The beach was a quick 20 minute drive. We also liked that we were able to meet people and mingle if we wanted or lay-low and do our own thing. Wish we had more of these in the US!
