Vermont West is a country house nestled deep in the rolling hills of southwestern Wisconsin. It is filled with serenity and privacy on a 13 acre tree farm with mowed trails, a small winding creek, wild flowers, wildlife and a night sky full of stars.

The space

Vermont West is a beautiful, private country home. Though deep in the country, the house has a 'Chicago Loft' feel inside. Hardwood floors downstairs, fully carpeted bedrooms, and a dark counter top with under cabinet lighting kitchen. It is airy and bright during the day, relaxing and serene at night.

Guest access

Vermont West amenities include a full kitchen and living space, large indoor dry sauna, stone back patio, DVD/VCR equipped, central air conditioner, front porch for sitting, quiet country roads for walking, old novels, puzzles and games. Linens and Dishes supplied. Guest access to a back, stone patio off the kitchen, and a dry wood sauna off the living room.

Interaction with guests

Owners, Paul and Terese, live nearby and will be able to assist with any house needs or local recommendations, when available.

Other things to note

Regarding telecommunications, due to the nature of Vermont West resting in a valley, cell phone coverage is limited. Depending on your carrier, if you are unable to get a cell signal in the house, all of our guests have been able to connect from the top of the hill 1/4 mile away. Also, dial up WI-FI is available, but for retrieving or sending emails, only. For additional internet access, our guests have successfully gotten access at area cafes or the library.

We had wonderful time staying in Paul’s house. Paul is very thoughtful of his guests including piling wood for a fire pit. Paul was available at any time we called and responded to a concern (a burnt bulb) promptly. The property is nicely maintained. The place is secluded but easy to access.

Paul made us feel very welcome with his phone call when we arrived. He offered to come right down from his place and give a private tour, and much information about weekend events in the area were left on the kitchen table along with instructions about the house. The house was very clean and exceptionally well stocked with kitchen supplies, games, tapes, magazines, and books. The grounds were very well kept also. We especially loved the true farmhouse privacy.

We loved the peace and quiet, the beautiful country setting. We enjoyed the property and noted that kids would LOVE this place! Perfect location for our Spring Green/Mineral Point/Richland Center explorations. Not difficult to find because of well-signed roads. Kitchen was quite comfortable. One of our small group just loved the sauna; we could hardly get her out of it once she discovered it.

Let me be clear: This home and the property on which it sits, the owners Paul and Therese, this area, and the drive to it, are all remarkable. If you want to stay in a clean, inviting, well cared-for home with all of the modern amenities, and you want the magic of being in the middle of nowhere while being close to good restaurants, wineries, breweries and State Parks, place your reservation now. There are so many things to do actively (canoeing, kayaking, hiking) and passively (campfires, Bloody Marys, tube floats, board games, House on the Rock). A real joy, my friends and I will visit here again!!!

Thanks so much for a great trip. This pretty farmhouse is on a gorgeous parcel about 15 minutes from Highland. Our hosts responded quickly to our questions and had lots of information available at the house. Large and beautiful yard with a fire pit all set up for us. (We were so bummed we were too busy to enjoy it.) Very clean and well stocked home with plenty of towels, linens, and kitchen items. We all enjoyed a morning walk/run along the hilly farm roads...even saw a deer in the field. Will definitely stay again when we come back to visit family in the area.

Paul and Terese were wonderful! The house a little challenging to find at night. We reached around midnight, and they were thoughtful to leave the lights on so we could see the house. We enjoyed a hike at Governor's Dodge and the beach in Tower Hill, which would about 30 minute drive from the house. In the evening, we cooked and enjoyed a campfire outside. It was extremely peaceful with no light or noise pollution, and we were able to see a lot of the constellations. Paul dropped by in the morning and kindly marked a map for us to get around. Highly recommend Vermont West if you are looking for a place to get away for a peaceful, relaxing vacation. As a note, there is no internet or signal.
