I think living with people, either for a day or a lifetime, is about mutual respect. This would include respect of each others privacy. Some guests may want a lot of interaction with the host, while others would be more inclined to be left alone. I respect each person's proclivities in that respect. There's a lock on your door.

We stayed with Brian while we explored St. John's for a couple of days. It was a pleasure. Brian and his pets make very welcoming hosts. He had plenty of suggestions for places to go, ensured that we started our days with a hearty breakfast, and offered a clean, comfortable bedroom (the king-sized bed was a dream!).

It was very easy to communicate with Brian though Airbnb and text. After arriving, he introduced us to his friendly pets, fixed me a cup of tea, offered a snack, and chatted a while (he's led a varied and fascinating life). He's very hospitable - offering toiletries and other snacks in our room, making an assorted breakfast, and offering to pick us up. It's a bit of a walk if you want to go downtown, but he lives in a great neighbourhood and it's an easy stroll. If you stay, he may just play the piano for you!

Sweet Craftsman style home in nice neighborhood. Easy access to sights and museums. Brian was very helpful and generous with his time and kitchen. We arrived late without having eaten and he generously shared part of his meal!

We had a great stay with Brian. The bed was very comfortable and spacious. The house is old and full of character. The house is located about a 25 minute walk from downtown in a quiet and beautiful community. The bus is a short walk from Brian's house which makes it convenient. Brian is very welcoming, kind and generous. I feel as though he really helped to make our stay great. Brian's pets are also really great.

If your looking for a place that feels like home, look no further. Brian is an amazing host and great guy. He made us breakfast, and drove us to a great spot to view the ocean and play fetch with his wonderful dog. He hooked up computer to a tv in the bedroom for entertainment, has a fan and bathroom amenities, and lots of cool stories. Even has a lock on the door and a key, for those who wants to feel extra secure. Will for sure be returning

I am retired. I used to help a friend sometimes with his B and B and learned that I really liked meeting new people, and showing them around our wonderful city.
I just finished the St. John's Triathlon. My other goal was to rent a room in this lovely house, full of wood floors and nice furniture.
It's to make some extra cash, of course, but it's a way too of relaxing in retirement, and sharing my knowledge of St. John's.

One guest was unable to post her review because I discontinued that listing. But it's the same room and house. She writes:
Here is what I will say and hopefully you can get it online ***************
Diane writes:
"My husband and I very much enjoyed our time at Brian's house on Topsail Road. Our bedroom was clean and comfortable and came with a standing fan which will be an asset In times of warmer weather. The bathroom was down the hall which was fine with us. He also offered us the use of the computer room next door to the bedroom. Brian is a person with eclectic interests and life experiences and we had some good conversations over morning coffee and breakfast, which he didn't have to make for us, but did. He knows a lot about hiking and biking routes and was able to tell us where to go on the East Coast trail. If you enjoy walking you could walk down to Water Street and down to the centre of town in 20 minutes or so. The street he lives on is treed and has some older character houses.

Brian was hospitable and responsive to texts, which is they way we like to communicate with hosts once we are on the road. He is easy going about arrival and departure times. When we locked ourselves out of our room he "sprang to action" and problem solved quickly! "

The photos on airbnb are true to the space. This is not the Ritz but is comfortable and great value if you are on a budget. As a bonus, Brian has a very friendly dog and cat if you are an animal lover.

We would be happy to stay at Brian's again."
