Birchcroft [Accessible Accommodation] is set in 1 1/2 acres of rhododendron woodlands and gardens but within easy access both to Bournemouth, New Forest, Jurassic Coast and all the beauty of the Dorset countryside. Enjoy the gardens, watching the wildlife and the lovely sunsets. It is 4 star rated by Visit England and holds M2, H1 and V1 ratings for Accessible Accommodation. A new ramp to the front door was installed this year. A kids playhouse with toy kitchen, etc is a great new addition.

The space

You can relax in the large lounge looking out over the sweeping lawns and rhododendron hedges, copper beach trees and hydrangeas. Birds such as green woodpeckers, blue tits, great tits, nuthatches and robins feed at the edge of the terrace in easy sight of the lounge. Early in the morning you can sometimes glimpse the small deer in the wild flower dell or eating the geranium flower heads. For our less able guests we have a wet-room equipped with supports, low level mirrors and electric pull shower. Other equipment can be added at no extra cost, such as a wheelchair, folding walkers, toilet risers, commode, etc.

Guest access

You are hiring the complete house with access to all rooms, except our store rooms on the top floor. The front is accesses by a new ramp, bordered by summer flowers, as well as steps. Though access to the terrace from the lounge has one step, wheelchair access is available for the terrace via the side arch next to the conservatory. Whereas the lounge faces the setting sun, the conservatory faces the morning sunshine and proves a little hide-away for adults wanting to relax but still keeping an eye on the children in the children's playhouse. This has now been done up and has kitchen play furniture, as well as small tables and chairs.

Interaction with guests

You can always contact the owner, Sonia and her assistant Mary, if you have any queries throughout your stay. This is usually by telephone but they can easily visit the property should a physical attendance be needed.

Other things to note

If you wish to stroll through the woods for a visit to the local pub, The Angel, then please remember to bring a torch with you for the return journey - we would hate you to get lost!
During the Christmas period we decorate the house, complete with real Christmas tree, table settings and a Christmas hamper. Why not join us next Christmas and New Year for a family reunion. You are only 6 miles from the golden beaches of Bournemouth and you can hire our beach hut during your stay.

Sonia has a lovely home; spacious, private and a short drive from nearby attractions. The kitchen is well equipped, furnishings were excellent. We highly recommend this home for a family getaway from the city.

We loved our stay in Sonia's lovely home. The grounds are stunning and the wildlife you see, amazing. We saw deer, rabbits, squirrels and lots of species of birds. The summer house is perfect for young children and the house is very well equipped and clean. Highly recommended!

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Birchcroft, we are a family of 6 aged 22+ and there was plenty of room for all of us, the disabled facilities were ideal for my Grandmother who suffers from Parkinson's but was able to move around the house with ease. The grounds were absolutely beautiful, plenty of places to explore and lot's of wildlife to see, we saw a variety of birds as well as lots of bunny rabbits and squirrels. The house was very well equipped, every utensil you could ever need was provided, the beds were very comfortable and the house was well presented and clean, we also had excellent communication from both Sonia and Mary, we can't wait to come and visit again, we were very sad to leave!

We were traveling with a large group - two families - of four adults and four kids. This place was perfect for us with plenty of bedrooms (4) and plenty of bathrooms (4)! Plus, it is setback from the road and once you enter the drive, you feel that you are in the country. There are walking paths behind the house that wander through the woods and the bird feeders in the garden attract lovely visitors. The kids also spotted some bunnies in the mornings. The kitchen was well set up for eating at home, the dining table comfortably seated 8 and the living room was a great for relaxing by the fire. The location is great for exploring the Jurassic Coast or the New Forest. Highly recommended for a country holiday.
