A unique traditional 100 years old, stone house could be the perfect base to explore Heraklion, the surrounding vilages, the nature sights and the genuine Cretan life style. Bring your family, companion or friends to our home and experience Crete
Our newly renovated home is a two floor fully equiped house, ideal for families or groups of up to 6 people
The cosy living room with the fireplace, where you can relax, is next to the fully functional kitchen, waiting for you to try Cretan recipies and delicacies. The small dinning room can host your discussions and games by a library full of folklore, historical and turistical books of the area, Heraklion and Crete. The upper floor has the two bedrooms along with the main bathroom and a large veranda where you can sit and admire the surrounding rural area having as background mountain Psiloritis. Finally, you will spend a lot of time in our yard outside, where a build in barbeque is there for you.
Interaction with guests
I or another member of my family will always be available to help or guide you through everything, if asked. We can provide you with maps and instructions regarding the area and the sights, along with tips for shopping commodities inside the village. Upon demand, we can service you in any way you want, making your trip easier.
Tilissos is a large rural village with ancient history, dating back to 1400 BC. Based in our home you will have the chance to visit the (not well-known) ruins of the Minoan ancient city of Tilissos and the nearby (7 km) touristic area of Amoudara with tones of shops, bars, restaurants and, of course, the beach. Heraklion and all of its sights is only 15-20 minutes away.
That is not all... 5 minutes from there the Arolithos traditional village would be perfect for you to learn and experience the Cretan life and costumes back in the old times. Traditional feasts, a tavern and few workshops will show you what life looked like in Crete before 50 years and back.
Also, Tilissos is located on the base of mountain Psiloritis, from where you can visit (in a 30 minute drive) the mountain village of Anogia with the beautiful Nida plateau and the great taverns, and the village Zoniana with the gorgeous Sfendoni Cave. From Anogia and with an additional drive of 30-40 minutes you can reach the cave of “Ideon Andron” where Zeus, the King of the ancient Greek gods, was born.
Finally, don’t miss the chance to visit the “Voulismeno aloni” and play with its acoustics and have a picnic in the young forest of “Keri” from where you can look panoramically the entire Heraklion city.
…. Some additional notes for Tylissos. In the village you will find small super markets with local products, along with the ordinary ones, butcher shops to buy some fine meat and local cold cuts, such as the traditional vinegar sausage and “apaki”, and a couple of small cafes for your espresso.
Please respect and preserve the house as is.
