A recently refurbished 1930s cottage in the heart of Volcano Village with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Charming and comfortable, the Volcano Bungalow offers lodgings for singles, couples, or small families.

The space

The Volcano Bungalow is an historic caretaker’s cottage, built in the 1930s and thoroughly renovated in early 2007. It preserves the “old” cottage feeling, while offering the conveniences of the twenty-first century.

The newly renovated and fully equipped kitchen has a 20” electric range, a 10-cubic-foot refrigerator, with microwave, toaster, and coffee maker atop the large wrap-around oak countertop and new, custom-built lower cabinets, and, in the 1930s-built pantry, a coffee press, blender, and rice cooker. The bathroom, also fully renovated, has a generously sized, ceramic-tiled shower. The living room is warmed by a Jøtul gas stove and has an entertainment cabinet with a TV on cable, a DVD player, with a collection of movies, and a music player with an eclectic collection of CDs, including Hawaiian music. There’s also wired and wireless high-speed internet access. There is a queen-sized bed in each of the two bedrooms and a queen-sized futon/couch in the living (URL HIDDEN) Bungalow provides private, quiet comfort.

Besides the covered front porch, which has a built-in bench (for removing shoes, local-style), it offers a spacious covered back lanai, with built-in benches and a hand-built table, surrounded by camellia trees (they grow big here!). Charming and comfortable, the Bungalow offers easy access to the village’s stores and restaurants from an unpaved one-lane road, used only by residents and their guests.

The cottage was a wonderful place to stay. It was exceptionally clean, full of personal charm. I really appreciated the location, since I was attending a photography workshop that was located in Volcano Village. Ken and Mary were wonderful hosts!

Ken is by far the most thoughtful, helpful and friendly host I have had. The bunglow is way nicer than I had pictured. It is very clean and home feeling, also quite close to Volcano National Park. Ken also provided detail guidance in great scenic spots to check out. We enjoyed stay here and would recommend to whoever wanted to have a deep-dive trip in Volcano.

Staying in Volcano Village was amazing. The bungalow is so homey and comfortable. I loved everything about it. The area is so quiet and relaxing. It’s so close to Volcano National Park so it’s so easy to go there at night. Ken met me and gave me my key and showed me some tips of where to go. Buy your groceries and cook in the kitchen because its perfect. I only wish I had stayed longer. Can’t wait to return.

Ken was a gracious host and his cottage is super inviting and cozy! My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. It's very close to Volcanoes National Park which for us was a plus. Ken had provided us with lots of good info and advice regarding the park and the area!
