The space

Small and cosy barge of 22 m ( 72ft ) long, located in the historical heart of Paris , moored in front of Le Louvre on the opposite bank of the Seine, right down the « passerelle des Arts ».

I have designed this boat myself from the bare hull of an old supply boat that I found thirty years ago in Amsterdam Harbour. I drew all the plans and built most parts of the barge's superstructures and interior fittings, always looking for a soft and smooth boat line as can be a trait of chinese calligraphy.

The interior design reveal the delicate hull's curves, the fine decoration is based on pieces evoking some far journeys, as opposed to a standardizes one.
In all weathers, the comfortable steering room will provide an amazing dream space with a panoramic view on the river Seine.

The living space (40 m2) includes the steering room and the whole hold which is composed of an open space with a bed corner with a double bed ( 1,90 m x 1,40 m), kitchen, living and dining space and also a separate room with toilet and a shower.

The barge is located in the historical and central district of Paris very close to :
- national fine art school, art galleries and antique shops.
- fashion design shops.
- some well-known bookshops.

From there you can walk to le Louvre, Beaubourg and Orsay museums, Notre Dame and la Sainte Chapelle ... or jog to Tuileries and Luxembourg gardens as well as the Seine banks.

The barge is very close to : grocers, supermarket and bakeries.

Many public transport facilities :
- Metro stations : Louvre-Rivoli (Ligne 1), Pont Neuf (L 7), Odéon (L 4, 10) , Mabillon (L 10), Saint Michel (L 4), Saint-Germain-des-Prés (L 4).
- Bateau bus ( shuttle boat service ) : 100m on the same bank.
- RER : station Saint-Michel (to go to Versailles, Auvers sur Oise and Roissy airport).

To conclude, this location should appeal to hosts really interested in the history of the city and not only in visiting the Eiffel tower and the Champs Elysées.

1- As I keep a day free to clean the boat between two different hosts, I am very flexible for check in and check out (early morning or late evening at your convenience).

In my opinion my boat must be clean to welcome my guest so I don't want to add cleaning fee and I consider this extra charges as a way to increase the price without any more guarantee about the cleanliness !

2- I want point out an obvious fact that my boat rocks with the Seine river; the river is very quite during the night time ( midnight to morning ).

3- According my boat's caracteristics : in the hold the height is 1,85m to 1,95m, in the wheelhouse the height is 2,05m.

4- For security reasons :
Children are not accepted on board and parties are not permitted.
I keep the right to access from the wheel house to the engines room if necessary.

5-The boat is moored with two other boats (as you can see on the pictures) so I request you to respect our neighbors boats.

6- The quay Conti where is moored the boat belongs to UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE since 1991 so I request that the guests don't park car on the quay !

The "Cosy Boat" is THE only place to stay in Paris!!! We were greeted by Rene and Martine, the most fabulous hosts we've ever met, and they carried our luggage and escorted us onto the Soleil Rouge. The converted barge is decorated with wonderfully artistic taste and feels like home. The location by the Pont des Arts with views of Ile de la Cite and the Louvre is perfect and convenient to the metro and left bank amenities. Rene has a lot of Paris information and it is so well organized. We spent many evenings drinking wine and watching Seine River traffic from the pilot house which has a 360 degree view rain or shine. The Soleil Rouge is a great retreat after a busy day in Paris. When we left Martine ordered a taxi for us and both she and Rene were there to say au revoir.

Enjoyable experience! Rene & Martine are exceptional hosts. The boat was comfortable and in the best spot in Paris for touring and just watching Paris unfold. Sitting in the wheel house with a glass of wine and watching the Louvre at night will always be remembered.

Soleil Rouge is an extraordinary experience. Location cannot be beat, the host is extraordinary - met us upon arrival at the boat, helped us with our bags and even met us for departure and arranged a taxi. It is not for everyone - there is some movement when other boats pass by but we found it to be quite enjoyable.

Pros: Location, location, location; possibly the best in all Paris! You can easily walk to many museums, bars and restaurants. Very romantic setting and furnished with great art. Has a wonderful vibe and it’s obvious it’s a home and not just a rental unit. Perfectly equipped with all the amenities one could ask for, except for AC. Fantastic hosts, you couldn’t ask for better! Rene and Francine greeted us and carried our extremely heavy luggage to and from the boat. They instructed us of their favorite restaurants and even made a reservation for us. Upon departure they arraigned for and met the taxi at 5:45 am. Basically it seemed like Rene was completely there for us. I left feeling like we made new friends. Cons: Unfortunately we were in Paris in one of its’ worst heat waves so without an AC and only one small fan it was very uncomfortable. I can tolerate a lot of heat but it was even too much for me and my partner who can’t tolerate heat well was miserable. A small AC unit would have made all the difference, and we would definitely give it five stars. With the windows open there’s a lot of noise from other tour boats passing by on the Seine. Once again a small AC unit would have made all the difference. Remember it's a boat and will sway from side to side with the waves. That didn't bother us at all. Getting on and off the boat requires some agility and might be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. STAY HERE if it's not going to be very hot!
