An incredibly convenient location, this beautiful junior-1 bedroom is an oasis of comfort and style in the heart of NYC. A grand piano and lovely tree-lined block, perfect for 1 or 2 people looking for a quiet, cozy place that is walkable to it all!

The space

This apartment is what New York dreamers think of when they imagine an ideal NYC living space! The Upper West Side is clean, safe, full of culture, street fairs, parks and fun! With the 1/2/3/B/C local and express subway and bus lines nearby, the Natural History Museum, Lincoln Center, The Beacon Theater, Central Park, Riverside Park, NYC's famed grocery stores Fairway and Zabar's within steps, the convenience of this apartment can't be beat!

On the 3rd floor of a typical NY brownstone building (a walkup - no elevator), this apartment is full of character and charm, featuring a decorative fireplace, natural woodwork, and exposed brick. Eclectic furniture makes the apartment homey and comfortable. A gorgeous 1992 Steinway M grand piano makes it perfect for any pianist or musician!

This is a junior 1-bedroom apartment, which means that there is a separated bedroom, but there is no door to the bedroom, so it is most suitable for one person or two people that won't mind sharing the double bed. There is a single air-mattress if need be.

Equipped with a full-sized bed, air-mattress, washer/dryer, full kitchen and bathroom, A/C, ceiling fan, stereo, wi-fi, microwave, interesting books, old VHS tapes. Note: no TV. Or VHS player. (Huh?)

House rules: Absolutely no smoking, no drugs, and no strangers. Practice hours are 10am-10pm. Please don't put anything on the piano. It's not a table. ;-)

Other things to note

Although there will not be animals on the premises during your stay, cats do live here during the year. Please take this into consideration if you have strong allergies to cats.

Mary is a kind and nice host. The notes that she left for us were really helpful. It's a small flat but useful and quiet. The location is very good, there are so many places that you can eat, shop and walk around safely nearby, also very close to subway. As a pianist, it was a great opportunity to have a piano. When we come to NYC again, we would love to rent Mary's flat if it's available.

I met Mary on a designated day when it would be convenient for both of us at her apartment. She carefully explained how to operate the A/C, fan, kitchen appliances including washer and dryer, rules of the building, her own personal rules, such as removing shoes, and made sure I was acquainted with her very special piano. I assured her that it would be totally intact when she returned. The apartment was decorated with such taste, but not overdone. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was the expected size for an apartment. The water temperature was perfect and never ran out. Having to walk up only 2 flights of stairs was just fine. The area outside felt very safe--close to the corner and almost next door to a doorman for a condo. Cabs were available instantly on Amsterdam. It is very close to several museums, close to Central Park and Riverside Park, a great yogurt shop just a block away, plenty of restaurants right around the corner. The apartment was very quiet--from the street as well as from the other tenants. I only met one tenant the entire 16 days I was there--coming out of his apartment. All tenants seemed to abide by the "quiet" time after 10 PM. It seemed to be a very well built (URL HIDDEN) noise from any wall or ceiling. It was well priced. It did not have a TV, but due to my schedule, I didn't even miss the news. It had a great radio/CD player--plenty for me. It was easy to get to anywhere in the city, safe to walk to, accessible with only 2 keys, delightful connection with Mary, and I would rent it again if it was available.

My apologies for the delayed response! The apartment was lovely and exactly as Mary had described. Mary left an info pack and a map which we found most useful. The apartment was clean and all appliances and such in perfect working order. The neighborhood was clean and easy to navigate. Within easy walking distance of many attractions. Central Park is a 5 minute walk and we spent a fair amount of time enjoying the park. I would highly recommend Mary and the apartment anytime and hopefully we will be able to travel to NYC again soon and my first choice will most certainly be Mary's apartment. Regards

I'm a classical pianist from the midwest, and have lived in NYC for over 13 years. I've loved my experience here, and truly enjoy all the culture and energy NY has to offer.
I love discovering new foods, places, and things, which is one of the big reasons why I have chosen to live in NYC for so long.
My two cats, Peanut and Scarlet, are incredibly sweet!! They have been known to soften cat-hater hearts, and have been described as "crazy nice."
