The space

Some people say that Kythira is "the hidden secret" of the Mediterranean Sea. The almost untouched nature beauty, the low population of the island and the small scale of tourist development create a nice and quiet environment for visitors. On the other hand historic influences are visible in every step you make. On the island were -according to mythology- Venus was born, Venecian houses and castles, old communities destroyed by pirates and English bridges and lighthouses are waiting to be discovered.
The house is a recent rebuild old residence. It is located in the north part of the island, in the village of Karavas, on a hilly ground, near the coast. It's a 160 sq.m, two levels, fully equipped house. One seperate bedroom and two big comfortable "sleeping spaces" can easy accomodate up to six people. Although the house is strongly recommended for families and friends.
In groundfloor (85 sq.m) there is a living room, dining space and a big kitchen together with a terrace were you can enjoy your breakfast facing the hills and the village. There is also a sleeping area and a small guest bathroom.
Two balconies are provided on first floor (75 sq.m), one with excellent view to the hills and the sea and a second one facing the village church. There is also a living room, a sleeping place and a seperate bedroom.
The house is 3km away from "Platia Ammos" and "Fourni" beaches but you have at least two more swimming options in a range of 5 km. You can take short or longer walks or you can bike early in the morning or late in the afternoon (two mountain bikes are provided in the house).
Seven km south of Karavas you can reach the main village of Potamos. Super Market, Bank, Pharmacy and the Hospital of the island are there. There is also a local bazaar every Sunday. Five km south-east, by the sea is the big village of Agia Pelagia. Plenty of restaurants can provide a variety of very good food.
The house was built from people that would like to live permanently in future. Is nice and a very good base to discover and enjoy a very nice island! I will be glad to give you any further information.

Stefanos' house is the loveliest place ever: it's very big and comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen, three adorable small terraces, lots of bedrooms and a wide living room. Karavas is quite secluded and calm but still very close to beautiful beaches and larger villages such as Potamos and Agia Pelagia. But there's more, because Stefanos himself is the best host this wonderful house could have: he is a delightful person, ready to do anything he can to help you with your stay and full of suggestions. He also gave us a map with all his notes to find the best places for us to visit in term of beaches, restaurants and landmarks; and he was kind enough to accompany us in a visit to the lighthouse next to Karavas. It was a real pleasure to be in his house and to meet him as a person. (Also Kythira is an amazing island to visit if you are looking for a place that is still quite far from mass tourism but that still offers quite a lot of interesting things to do).

If you would like a peaceful vacation in a wonderful home with the best host you will ever have, stay here! Stefanos did so much to make us welcome and make our stay the best we had in Greece. He met us on the road from the ferry and guided us to his place. He filled the refrigerator with fresh water from the local spring (a beautiful spot to visit on a hot day), fresh juice and wine and provided delicious bread rusks from the local bakery. The house is just as pictured; Stefanos keeps it very clean (even the rafters high in the bedroom are dusted!). Everything is organized perfectly and stocked with all you could need for a short or long stay. The kitchen has every gadget imaginable and was clearly made with love. There are towels and umbrellas for the beach, as well as bicycles to use during your stay. He has made models of airplanes, ships, and vehicles from all around the world. If we needed anything during our stay, we had only to call to him as he lives close by. He did so much to make our stay enjoyable that I cannot describe it all here. Upon arrival he showed us to a nice restaurant to get lunch, took us to the ferry office to buy tickets for our return, and got us settled in. He recommended an excellent restaurant the next day for dinner in a nearby town. We really got along well with Stefanos, and spent an entire day touring around the island. A hidden city destroyed by pirates at the beginning of the Renaissance! A sunset over the Mani Peninsula in gorgeous pastel. On one evening he took us to see a quiet monastery garden. We saw places that we never would have seen without him and felt so fortunate that he took such care to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We raced around on little roads that he has known his entire life. He showed us the best beaches and he knew where to find the best places to eat. Stefanos made our vacation in Greece and on Kythira in particular extra special. Anyone fortunate enough to choose to stay at Stefanos' villa house will not be disappointed!

Stefanos has been a very nice and helpful host, keen to provide advice and to learn whether all was ok with the house. When he heard my daughter had lost her doll's cups he left on the house terrace a pair of tiny cups as a present for her... The house is well equipped and very fresh at night as it has windows on three sides, so we slept very well. The view from the main room upstairs is beautiful. We did not cook much, as we spent most day exploring the island, but I guess Stefanos kitchen has all you need to cook…One word about Karavas: this is not the “hottest” spot in the island, it is really for people who look for peace and truesome landscapes. When you reach the village the impression is of stillness, but people do live there, and there are things worth exploring that you may not see immediately. My suggestions to make the most from the house location are: (a) do not wait until day 3 to enter the local café’ or at least say “kalimera” to the friendly owner – they sell very (VERY) few items but a beer or ouzo would do; (b) ask Stefanos where the local spring is and go and fetch fresh water to drink (it is a 5-10 minutes walk from the house) – I did this with my kids every other day and they loved it; (c) spend some time taking in the peace in the square in front of the lovely church; (d) ask as soon as possible where the local bakery is – the one in Karavas is the best on the island, and worth a daily visit!

Stefanos greeted us so warmly, meeting us at the airport to ensure our rental car was no issue and showed us the way, left all necessary to start our stay without rushing to supermarket. The house is fantastic, very well equipped, matching perfectly the description, with different balconies for each moment of the day/night. The place is so quiet and peaceful, with easy car access to beautiful beaches. We will definitely come back and already advised the island and the house to our friends and family ! Thank you Stefanos for all the good advise on best locations and your kind attention at all times.

It's hard to find the words to describe our incredible week that we had in Stefanos' beautiful home. It was immaculately clean and well presented with heaps of space. My husband and two adult children stayed here very comfortably for just under a week and needed at LEAST another week to truly see the whole amazing island. The village of Karavas was a perfect place for us as it was serene and rustic and we were immediately at home in Stefanos' large comfortable house ( yes this house was traditional white with blue shutters just like in the postcards) . The views from all three balconies are incredible with pink sunsets, looking over the quaint church next door and into the valley of Karavas. We drove and swam at 5 different beaches and we already miss our morning coffee sitting on the day beds on balcony gazing at the ocean. We also miss the wonderful greek food in the villages on the way, especially in Potomos where we had Yiros for 3 euros that were the best we've tasted ( approx 15 min drive away) Stefanos was a perfect host and we recommend to anyone wanting to visit the island to stay at his home, rather than at the big beaches which are more touristy and busy. We will definitely go back and hope that Stefanos still has his home to hire then,. Thanks again Stefanos and to your brother for your hospitality and food that you left for us and great directions to the best beaches, Madonna, Brett Maddie and Oliver.

The house is very charming and comfortable, and if you like to cook, the beautiful kitchen is well furnished! Karavas is a very nice village with view on hills, the sea and Peloponnese. And many nice beaches not far from the village. Kythira is a green and magical island. And Stefanos is a very helpful and sweet person. Our stay in Stefanos' house was great!

Mr. Stefanos was a wonderful host. Really welcoming, he had made us coffee upon arrival and he even helped us with the luggage. The house was really spacious and decorated with many tasteful objects. The only down side was that there was no internet connection (the location seems a bit far away, but there some very nice places and beaches near-by so nothing to worry about). It was an overall great experience and I highly recommend it!

I'm professor of physics (with huge patience...) at private school. Kythira is my homeland. I like good music, theater, cinema and in my spare time I enjoy long rides with my bike. But most of all I enjoy travelling and knowing new lands and people!
I consider myself a hospitable person and I'll take care so that my visitors will have a nice time in my house.
