The living area pictured next to the room is very pleasant and the garden it faces is even prettier than the pictures. It is a pleasant place to hang out in (there are evening mosquitos, be prepared!), but it is a shared if not very frequented place. Adult members of the family will come down to smoke there but if they know it bothers you, they will keep a distance. This place might be a better choice for smokers. The room itself is very small, with little space to organize your stuff. There are nice touches like lamps to make it cozy, but I was surprised at the size. There is a distant rumor of city traffic - it is near the main road - but it does remain distant, and there are lovely birds and their songs. The price might be appropriate for what is considered a desirable area, although I found it a bit high for the size of the room and the lack of private bathroom facilities, compared to many other places where I stayed in Senegal. I was accurately informed of all this, however. There is a toilet next door with a low tap, helpful, but no sink or mirror etc. I have had a private bathroom in many instances for less. Up four stairs and into the house there is a shared bathroom with very hot water, which is great. The wifi is good too. Youri is a very nice man and an excellent successful photographer. He took me into an exhibit in the center on his motorbike, along the Corniche, that was an experience! And he gave me a ride to the airport at midnight, which was very kind indeed. Merci, Youri! Adja tries to be a good hostess, checks in sometimes, etc, but her family life seems to affect her moods and manners sometimes. Self control is an aspect of courtesy. I do know that dealing with a darling (we loved each other) but highly energetic and demanding toddler can be trying, but efforts can be made to ease and lighten the atmosphere for guests. They also have a sweet intelligent six year old girl, who is easy to talk to and well behaved. She is a non-problem. So my feelings are mixed - and, sorry, but I would not go back.

My wife and I were warmly welcomed and felt at home. The house is located in a strategic location (ie easy access to many places by bus, taxi and walk), located in a safe area. Adja was always very helpful. Wish to stay once again. Great thanks, Adja!

My husband and I stayed with Adja and her family for 6 weeks, and overall we had a wonderful time! She has two adorable children, and we really enjoyed getting to know her entire family. We took French classes at the Baobob center in Sicap Baobob, and it was very easy to take the car rapides to/from class every day. The home is very well located, just a few steps from a convenience store and boulangerie that we visited frequently. Adja was always very helpful if we had any questions about Dakar or Senegalese life, and even connected us with a tailor and someone to rent us a car. Her family also invited us to join them for dinner a few times so we got to try some traditional Senegalese dishes! The room itself is separate from the main house, so we had our privacy when we wanted it, but were free to use the kitchen or rest of the main house when we liked. We were her first Airbnb guests, so there were a few small things that could be improved (an additional fan in the bedroom when it's really hot would be nice, there are some bugs around, etc.), but we would definitely recommend staying with Adja for anyone looking for a private room in a truly Senegalese home!

Response from Adja:
Comme clairement indiqué dans l'annonce , nous mettons à disposition une chambre séparée du reste de la maison mais néanmoins connectée à celle -ci et donc sans entrée indépendante. Les visites sont autorisées tant qu'elles respectent le caractère familial de l'habitation. Du fait de la presence de jeunes enfants,notre logement ne se prête guère à l'intimité que vous recherchiez .C'est pour cette raison que nous vous avons conseillé de louer un studio indépendant certes plus cher mais qui correspondait mieux à vos attentes;
