The space

Surrounded by a quiet pasture to the left and a private cove out front, this property makes people feel like they're "Up North" while being only 45 minutes from Detroit, Ann Arbor and other Metro Detroit attractions.

Equipped with a fully-stocked fire-pit, charcoal grill, dock for fishing/boating, and an array of watercraft (two kayaks, row-boat, canoe and a floating swim dock and life preservers) - we've made sure that guests have ample resources to go explore one of Oakland County's great all-sports lakes.

The house itself is compact yet with an open floor-plan, sliding glass doors and the adjoining large deck, it feels spacious and bright. Past guests have added that the fully equipped kitchen allows for a truly enjoyable rental experience without the fuss of having to dine out. From spices to baking pans, wine glasses to an immersion blender, we have it all. Added extras such as bird feeders, landscaped gardens, hula hoops and life preservers make this property one where guests of all ages will always have something to do. We want you to enjoy this little slice of paradise as much as we do, and hope you'll let us know if there's anything that we can add in order to make it a perfect getaway for you and your family.

The pro's and con's. Pro's: The inside is way better than expected. The living room/kitchen is very open and the decor is eclectic and fun. We loved the selection of books, old record player, binoculars and games. The location is awesome. The deck walks you right down to the lake. The dock has a huge manual powered (with oars) pontoon boat that can fit a crowd and is fun to oar out to the middle of the lake for a swim. The one person kayak and 3 person canoe were fun additions for going back and forth to family that were on the pontoon. Con's: The owners have neglected the back yard. I wanted to do s'mores on the fire pit. But on closer inspection the chairs were covered in spider webs and the cushions were so incrusted with filth and crawling with ants. I almost gave up. I called the owner and she suggested I get the hose out and hose everything off - including the spider egg sacks that were sticking the cushions to the backs of the chairs. I went over to the garden hose on the side of the house. It was covered in a huge spider web - at that point I just decided to forget it. I asked if she could send someone to blow off the deck - it was covered in spider webs and the area that held the boats was coated in leaves and spider webs as well. She sent over her relative, but I was gone when he came over and there was no noticeable difference when I got back. The area where they keep the the water toys is filthy and covered in spider webs and leaves. There are old floating things and broken things that are filthy and disgusting to look at - you have to weed thru that to get to the kayak and canoe. Once we got those out and cleared them of spiders we left them out for the stay. If your reason for renting the home is to be outdoors - pick another place. It's been sadly neglected. The wood on the deck is soft in spots and encrusted with spiders, egg sacs and webs. Under the deck, you can here animals crawling under it among the leaves and debris that fall through the gaps in the boards. The wooden benches are old and decaying. They need a good power washing and a fresh coat of paint. And the cushions need to be replaced. The inside is so well kept. I hope they spruce up the outside - it could be really nice and probably was at one time. Also - in the welcome packet she says to take the canoe or kayak across the lake to a sandy area the homeowners association keeps for the residents. She says it's a fun area to swim and play. It's obvious she isn't up on what's going on in her neighborhood. I asked several neighbors and...

We had such a great time at Kate's cottage. We loved sitting outside and watching the lake. We loved how quiet it was and really rested as a family.
