Other things to note

Crater Lake National Park is only an hour and a half drive North. Check out the deep, pure blue lake surrounded by sheer cliffs almost two thousand feet high, created by a violent volcanic eruption over 7000 years ago. Rangers delight to share lore and details from the Native Americans and their stories of the eruption, to early settlers finding the lake, early historic photography, the history of how it was designated a National Park. Snow shoe in winter, drive the rim or hike down to the lake and take a ranger led a tour across the lake.

It is only a half hour drive to Lake of the Woods, a high mountain, clear natural spring fed lake. And even closer is the Rocky Point area of the Upper Klamath Lake with its access to canoe/kayaking trails and good birding.

Another nearby destination is the Lava Beds National Monument with hundreds of caves and Native American rock art sites. Here a high desert wilderness awaits, as well as stories of the Modoc Indian War.

And lastly, in 2015 the Crater Lake Zipline opened. This 3 hour tree based zipline canopy adventure travels through a beautiful National Forest, and features limited views of Crater Lake.

The surrounding Cascade Mountains feature great fishing and hiking as well as snow shoeing or cross country skiing. The lodge has had snow shoes available to rent in winter and bicycles in summer.

The Resort also features a covered ice rink with beautiful open fire heating area that has open skating in season with rental skates available. The Arena also has ice dancing exhibits featuring Olympic quality skating that in the past has been hosted by local Olympians. Call the Lodge or see the Resort's Website for details. And of course as with most any ice rink the Arena it hosts several local hockey teams that practice and play during designated hours.

Response from Kathryn:
Monica had originally booked a week for July, but when a conflict arrived she needed to cancel. We agreed to move the week out to the end of September to give the the family time to reschedule. This never happened and no cancelation fees were taken.

We really enjoyed our stay at the chalet. It was clean and cozy, and had all of the amenities we were looking for! Our daughter enjoyed watching wildlife from the deck, and we loved having a quiet place to begin our day!

What a beautiful, warm home! After hiking the many hills and mountains that Crater Lake offers, coming back to the chalet, grilling dinner and soaking in the hot tub was exactly what we needed! The house has a great kitchen with all the supplies necessary to cook a delicious meal, everything is decorated beautifully, and there are plenty of space for a large group to enjoy! The convenience of having a market and coffee shop a few minutes away is a plus. Thanks for an amazing trip!

I took my son and nephew on a roadtrip and stayed at Kathryn's chalet. I was very pleased with the cleanliness and thoughtfulness shown with the available amenities. The spa was wonderful at the end of a day full of canoeing at Rocky Point and hiking at Crater Lake. The boys thoroughly enjoyed walking down to the gym and pool. The grocery store in Klamath Falls was not too far away which helped keep two teenage boys fed. Kathryn was very helpful with suggestions for sightseeing in the area. I will definitely be planning future trips to Kathryn's chalet with friends and family.

We stayed at the Running Y for three nights. Kathryn's place was perfect and easy to find. Comfortable, quiet and ideal place to relax after hiking in Crater Lake. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at "home" after getting groceries in Klamath Falls (we tried Gustavo's one night and were disappointed).

We were so pleasantly surprised at how nice and beautifully set up this chalet was. Our hosts thought about everything, from special towels for the hot tub, to a bag of ice in the freezer, to spices in the kitchen. We truly felt cared about and pampered. It was such a relaxing stay; we will definitely be returning whenever we can get back to the area! Thank you, Kathryn and Paul!

Married over 25 years to my husband Paul, with two grown daughters.
Enjoy traveling in Europe; lived and worked in Copenhagen, Denmark for three years. Love the outdoors: hiking, skiing and just sitting on the deck with a good book and a great glass of wine!!
