Two blocks to Loop/O'hare train, this handsome Chicago Greystone puts you incredibly close to vibrant dining and nightlife. Circa 1909 vintage beauty blends with modern bathrooms, big kitchen & sunny spaces. Lots of room to unwind!
This spacious 2 bedroom second floor apartment features vintage hardwood floors; central A/C, newly appointed modern bathroom with all the conveniences; half bath featuring LG front-load washer/dryer; views of gardens & leafy quiet street.
You'll enter the building by walking up the front steps to the entrance framed by two limestone greek revival columns. This is Chicago Greystone architectural detail typical of the turn of the century, and it's your home for the next few days.
You'll enter a marble-lined vestibule and find an inner door on the right to the stairs. Using your key to enter you'll take the stairs to the first landing, unlock the vintage oak door, and enter the apartment.
You'll notice right away the floors, doors and window trim are all original to the building. The bright, sunny dining room and living room flow from one to another. The front windows overlook the giant Catalpa trees on the tree lawn while the dining windows reveal the park-like side yard. All the greenery gives the effect of a treehouse and it can feel wonderfully peaceful even in winter.
The decor is an eclectic blend of vintage pieces from the 50's through 80's. Lots of retro personality. But you'll also find a modern flat screen TV with easy-access HDMI cable to run your laptop entertainment. And comfy seating to do it on. Plus a front office with a desk for working and a hefty collection of books for browsing.
Walking down the hall there's a modern half-bath to your left including an LG front-load washer/dryer pair and complimentary detergent pods & other laundry supplies. Next door is the full bath, completely modern with white subway tiles, glass shower doors and deep tub + cabinets holding fresh towels, shower and bath supplies, blow dryer, and other amenities. Lighting in both baths is adjustable from dim and romantic to very bright.
Across the hall are the main sleeping quarters with a queen bed flanked by Hollywood Regency-style furnishings. There's a rocking chair to relax in and a walk-in closet with iron/ironing board, extra pillows and blankets. Settle in!
The eat-in kitchen is bright and cheerful with coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and all major appliances. Explore the drawers to find pots & pans, cutlery, dishes and cookware plus tons of counter space for whipping up a great meal. There are complimentary snacks, cereals, coffee, chilled drinks, + bagels and jams for breakfast. Help yourself!
Off the kitchen is a cozy second bedroom and a closet with extra blankets, a full-size bed, and a window framed in green ivy overlooking the back garden.
The kitchen door opens to a modest sun porch with a lounge for dozing. From there, step out onto the small back deck and take in the view of the garden framed by Mulberry trees below.
We've set out to provide to all our visitors an authentic experience of living like a true Chicagoan. Of living in a true Chicago neighborhood. Of becoming a true local — even if just for a day or two. We'll be happy to help you go where the locals go and join in the rhythm of life here.
• All guests must be age 14 or older. As much as we love children, we are not equipped to accommodate them in our home. This includes infants. Thank you for understanding!
• Absolutely no extra guests. After booking, please do not ask to change the number of guests to more than the limit of 4 persons.
• Guests may enter and exit the building from the front entrance.
• There are gardens on the side and rear of the property. They're private, but please enjoy the view from the apartment's back porch.
• There's a little porch off the front office. It's ornamental and not a real balcony.
Interaction with guests
Our approach to guests is low-key — we'll pretty much stay out of your way and let you enjoy. But we're quite happy to offer advice or help whenever needed.
Either I or Giovanni will be on hand for check-in. We'll show you how the keys work and where everything is. Just text us during your stay should any questions arise. We also live on-site so one of us is usually handy.
Other things to note
Like so many of Chicago's vintage buildings, ours has modern updates side-by-side with older details. For instance, our floors are original. And they're a bit creaky in places, so you might hear footfalls from time to time. But you’ll find everyone here tries to keep quiet and courteous.
Please direct any questions about the apartment/neighborhood to me or Giovanni, and not to our tenants — they are kind folks but, like you, they've come here for the unobtrusive atmosphere.
Our neighborhood is diverse, from long-time families to yuppies to art kids to folks of all stripes, inclinations, backgrounds and incomes. Enjoy it. Respect it. It will love you back!
