Sunny and peaceful 1921 California Bungalow. A magical retreat, perfect for the creative soul to thrive in. Secluded front porch encased by trees, and a large back patio for dining and relaxing. Pasadena, Highland Park, and downtown LA are just minutes away.
Please review all photos & description of the home. Photos posted on AirBnb show the home exactly as it is, accurately. I go into ample detail in my description intentionally, so that there are no surprises. Please review the listing in full before booking and ask me any questions you may have :). Otherwise, please do not claim the listing is inaccurate after the fact. I cannot account for folks who do not properly research before booking.
I am the owner and I live in the (totally separate) upstairs of this two story 1921 California Bungalow. The downstairs is a separate unit, and is what is available to rent on Airbnb. It is basically a fully furnished home created for your relaxation and enjoyment.
Your space has two bedrooms, a full sized eat-in kitchen (with coffee maker, french press, coffee, tea, silverware, pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, cutting boards, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, spices, etc), with a full sized oven, stove, toaster, microwave, and fridge; a dining room; and, one bathroom, with a shower, sink, and toilet/water closet (with its own space/door). Towels, soap, shampoo, & conditioner provided. Brand new ROKU/smart TV which streams many channels (and radio stations) free of charge, Netflix, Hulu (including Showtime), and anything that is free via Amazon Prime video. You can also connect your computer to the ROKU TV if you prefer to stream content from your own computer.
The "back door" and/or kitchen door, which connects to the large back patio, should be used as the main entry to the home if you would like privacy in the front bedroom. The French doors in the front bedroom close and lock for privacy. This is shown in the photos, and makes more sense when you see the home in person.
Each bedroom has a queen sized bed. The front bedroom has an additional large couch (long enough for someone to sleep on if needed), a ROKU/smart TV, and a table as well. Both bedrooms have empty dressers to store your things. Both bedrooms have window Air Conditioning units, and space heaters are available upon request. There is ample table space throughout the home to work on your lap top if you choose, plus high speed wireless internet -- for any shows or movies you may want to watch, or for work you need to do.
There is an additional queen sized air mattress available to use if requested as well.
That being said, this home is really not appropriate for more than 4 people. There is plenty of space; however, when there are more than 4 people, it ends up creating quite a lot of noise. This home is for the quiet, not the loud.
All of the bedding, pillows, and carpets are brand new (as of May 2016), and are protected with waterproof pillow and mattress covers. For those with allergy concerns/etc this is a clean space.
I am quiet, so the place will feel like your own. When I am home (upstairs), the resident pets (Watson the dog, and Milo the cat) are on the property as well. Gates are kept strictly locked at all times to keep Watson inside the yard. All guests are expected to keep gates closed and locked. Watson & Milo are friendly and adorable if you choose to interact with them. The downstairs & property as a whole is a pet-free zone otherwise.
We are kind & considerate and we expect the same of our guests. Please leave the home as clean and tidy as you found it.

However, this additional service is payable in CASH, directly to the technician.
The outdoor front porch space has a private dining and relaxing area, seats 4 easily. The outdoor back patio is a large open space, with table, chairs, and patio umbrella. Perfect for catching some sun, meditating, yoga, enjoying a drink at sunset, or BBQing.
July 22, 2017: I am adding the following information to clarify -- because of a few recent comments.
Within the past 10 years, major home renovations include: a totally new foundation for the entire home (my home is in adherence with building and safety codes for earthquakes, retrofitting, etc), a complete old roof tear-off & brand new energy efficient cool-roof, brand new copper plumbing through the entire property (with all new plumbing fixtures), and a brand new sewer line for the entire property.
Otherwise, I have maintained the original interior of my home very intentionally. My listing accurately states that there are (newly refinished) original wood floors, built-in woodwork, etc, throughout the home. If an original floor, from 1921, having some squeaks/imperfections bothers you, then this is probably not the home for you. Additionally, my home is not listed as handicapped accessible, so if you have trouble walking up stairs or slopes (as shown in photos -- to enter the home from the street), this is also probably not the home for you. If you are over 200lbs, or a larger person, this home may not be a good fit for you either. Things were built smaller in 1921 -- like the shower stall and the water closet/toilet room -- because people were overall smaller at that time. All of this is shown clearly in the photos. 99.9% of my guests have not been bothered by any of this... Nor have I.
I am happy to help you with whatever I can within reason, and my home is provided as a service to you -- as is. Therefore, as I ask in the very beginning of my listing: Please review my photos, description, and house rules in full before booking my home. You have plenty of options in where you stay and the choice is yours! Please make an empowered choice. Thank you :).
Entire downstairs of home & front porch is yours alone.
Free high speed internet WIFI access.
A laundry room is available for guests staying 7 nights or longer. Access to the laundry area is on a pre-arranged basis.
Back patio & yard is shared with me & my pets intermittently.
There is ample safe free parking on the street in front of the home.
Interaction with guests
I live on the property, but I respect your privacy. You probably will not even know I am here. I am happy to help if you need anything and will be happy to address any questions concerning the location, accommodation, sights and other details.
Other things to note
Please don't be shy to ask any questions - it will help you determine if the place suits your expectations and make your stay the best experience possible!
Check-in is after 4PM. Check-out is at 11AM.
There is no filming or photography allowed on the property.
Please take your shoes off in the home, we want to keep the hardwood floor the way it looks.
NO smoking/vaping (of any substance at all) inside the house, and NO smoking anywhere else on my property.
NO candle burning.
Please keep gates closed and locked at all times (as much as possible). If the gate is left open, my dog (Watson) can get out, which is not allowed.
Any visitors other than who has booked the home must be approved before entering the property. This is a private residence, and unannounced guests are not allowed. Before your arrival, please provide me with the full names of anyone who will be staying on and/or visiting the property -- this is for everyone's safety and security :).
If you break, damage, or stain anything, please be kind to let me know ASAP, and we can find a fair way to settle the matter. Please be mindful and consider that you may be asked to replace anything that you break or damage irreparably. Quite often there is only a 5-hour turn-over between one guest's check-out and the next guest’s check-in. Considering this, I appreciate you letting me know about any damage that has occurred during your stay ASAP, so that we can properly prepare for the next guest.
In the City of Los Angeles, recycling is required. We expect and appreciate you abiding by this rule. Recycling containers for glass, plastic, paper, and aluminum/metal are just outside the kitchen door, on the back patio.
Bioclimatic house rules :
-As you know, there is a serious water shortage in California, and we ask you to use it in a responsible way.
-Do not run heater, air conditioner, or fans when you are not at home (they heat and/or cool the rooms quickly once you turn them on). When you do run the Air Conditioners (or heaters), please make sure that all of the windows are closed -- kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, dining room -- all windows closed. That is the best way to cool down (or heat up) the home; otherwise, it is simply a waste of energy.
- Turn lights off whenever you leave the home, please.
- Do not leave the oven on when you are not home, please. This is actually dangerous, and therefore it is totally unacceptable.
Please be respectful of the neighbors, we cannot allow loud noise, especially after 10pm. No parties allowed.
Please do not feed my dog or cat -- scraps from your meals or anything else -- without my express permission. You may be a pet lover and you may have the best of intentions, but please understand, it is not appropriate to feed my pets without my permission. You do not know what their dietary restrictions may be, and you may actually cause them harm -- which is obviously not allowed.
Netflix, Hulu, & Amazon Prime are available on the ROKU TV for your viewing of anything that is FREE of charge. I do not allow guests to purchase anything via my ROKU TV channels that costs any extra money. If you use Netflix, please use the "Guest" account I have set up for you.
The microwave is brand new (as of July 3, 2017). The manual for how to use it (and clean it) is located in the drawer beneath the microwave. Please follow the manual accordingly.
Please leave the house in reasonably clean condition -- ideally, as clean as it was given to you.
Your security deposit may be held in full if the house rules are egregiously disregarded.
For example: If you smoke inside my home, there is no excuse for doing so, and that counts as egregiously disregarding my house rules. I have allergies to smoke, as do some of my guests, and it is very difficult to remove the stench of smoke from a home.
THANK YOU, I hope you enjoy your stay in my home and best wishes to you!!!
