The space

Shady Acres is an eclectic neighborhood in Houston's Heights area which is close to all the major freeways, business districts, and downtown. The area is booming and there are fabulous restaurants in walking distance. It is 20 minutes from the airports. The rentable area is a guest bedroom, TemPurpedic bed, large guest bath, Wi-Fi, water and coffee available. Private garage holds one vehicle. Security system. A wonderful alternative to a hotel in the nation's 4th largest city.

My house loves guests!

I have a guest bedroom with large, private bath available in a cute 3/2.5 patio home built in 2007 in Shady Acres neighborhood of the Historic Houston Heights. There is a Quaker church right by and a little park. I can accommodate 2 in the guest room. The house has an alarm system and you will have a garage opener to use so you can pull your vehicle in off the street. The neighborhood is relatively safe for an urban neighborhood and the neighbors are friendly. You will be given the code for the WIFI upon booking.
Breakfast is self-serve, mostly smoothies and oatmeal or cereal. Will provide specifics upon request.
Pets are not allowed.

The Neighborhood
The neighborhood is Shady Acres. My home located in historic Houston Heights, just off of N Shepherd Dr.

Walking distance to
Cedar creek, The Corkscrew wine bar , Crisp wine bar, lots of restaurants and HEB (Grocery store)

Getting around
Walking distance to Bus stop.
Bus stop is at 20th and Beall st. Check with Ridemetro for Bus schedule and timings. I don't have much information about public transport but my guests have used it. Houston is a car city and highly recommend a car while you are in Houston.

My home has extremely easy access to all major highways I-10, 610 Loop, US 59, US 290. Drive to downtown- 15 mins.

Am close to :
Downtown
Galleria
George R. Brown Convention Center
Medical Center
Minute Maid Park
Museum District
Reliant Stadium
Toyota Center

There is a lot to do within walking distance:
Crisp is open a couple of blocks away and it is amazing. Always packed. Brunch on weekends. Live music on weekends. La Hacienda is also a short walk and is wonderful Tex Mex. Down the street is Cedar (email hidden) with great salads and sandwiches, Hubcap Grill, Texas Monthly says it is the best hamburgers in Texas, the Corkscrew, wine, pizza, live music, Tony’s Mexican Restaurant, Tecate, great Mexican breakfast, all a few blocks away. There is an Office Depot right around the corner and a small HEB grocery store.
Other areas close by in the Heights are Boom Boom Room (a wine and panini bar), Heights Asian Cafe, and Jus' Mac (mac and cheese restaurant), Millroy Park- basketball and tennis courts
Chilosos Taco House, Jenni's Noodle House and beautiful Heights Blvd. which has a walk/run/bike path and connects to the Heights-to-Downtown bike path
The 19th street downtown heights area has great restaurants-Vietnamese, Thai Spice, Colina’s, Menchies, coffee shops, antique shops, retro clothing stores, art galleries, a yoga studio, a gym, craft shops, and Opera in the Heights. Some restaurants in the Heights are dry, but you can bring your own bottle of wine and they charge you a small "corking fee."
Also Dan Electro's Guitar Bar where you can hear live blues.
The super shuttle will get you to my house for about $25. The bus system inside the 610 loop is not bad. You can get directions for the buses on (website hidden) maps- ask me if you're not sure how to do this.
The mountain bike is available for rental for $3 each/day.

This was my first time using Airbnb, so I wasn't sure what to expect. All I can say is if this is how all Airbnb trips could be, I may never stay in a hotel again, unless I have no other choice. Melanie went above and beyond to make my stay a great one. Her home is beautiful, very clean and organized. She provided me with some assorted fruits and yogurt for breakfast each morning. What was really nice was having someone to chat with in the evenings after my workday was done. Melanie is a very interesting and educated women full of information and great conversation. It was nice to talk with someone that could provide information regarding Houston, places to go or to avoid. For me, the location was perfect, it put me within three blocks of where I was conducting business each day but it's also surrounded by some amazing places to eat at or have drinks and entertain clients. I will most definitely be staying there again on my return visits. Melanie, thank you again for the great hospitality. Jim

WOW...WHAT A AMAZING LADY! Did she make us feel welcome is a total understatement! We felt like we had known her for years, and she made us feel just as welcomed in her home. Everything is just as she says, and then some. If you get the chance to meet Melanie and stay with her, it will definitely be the most wonderful experience you have with Airbnb. Melanie goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need, and that your stay is more than you expect. We can't wait to stay with her again. She has become a wonderful friend as well.

Melanie is a tremendously gracious host who really made our stay in Houston pleasant. We were very busy during our stay but Melanie was always available through text or email to answer questions or lend a hand. Her home is very nice and the bedroom/bath we stayed in was exceptional. Could not have asked for a better accommodation during our stay. The area town she lives in is fun and transitioning to young hipsters. Lots of new homes and business. Check out Boom Town Coffee on 19th Avenue. Very smooth roast and great breakfast.

What a amazing lady!! This stay and experience was far beyond any expectations we could have ever had! Melanie was so gracious to allow my husband to stay while he was in town on business and I couldn't be there with him. She couldn't have been a more perfect host! She and I chatted prior my husbands arrival, and I couldn't have felt more at ease ........seemed as if we had known each other for years! Her home immaculate, warm, inviting, a home away from home. And the bed.....Omg my husband said it was absolutely incredible!! He joked that he wanted to strap it to the roof top of the car!! Melanie was a gift to Michael and I both, and from this stay I feel we have a priceless bond as forever friends. We can't wait to travel back to Houston so that we can all spend time together again and continue building our friendship. We would 1000% recommend staying with Melanie! Like I said in the beginning...... What a amazing lady!!!!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience than the one I had with Melanie! Her home is amazing and I felt so incredibly welcomed. Every room is gorgeous and clean (and smell great). The bedroom and bath both are extremely beautiful, cozy, and immaculate. The bedroom felt like a perfect, private space all to myself. (Extra bonus -- the bed was fabulous and so comfortable for sleeping.) Everything about my days there said, "Relax and enjoy!" Melanie is so warm and friendly, and truly was a perfect hostess! I so enjoyed my time with her! There were no expectations, but yet, a friendly smile and chat whenever I felt like it. Every part of my stay, and every interaction with Melanie, made me feel like I was "at home" and could just make myself comfortable! The area has many conveniences that are easy to get to (including the main interstates) and many excellent restaurants to choose from. The neighborhood is well kept and very nice and Melanie's home felt extra safe (which was really important to me)! I loved every minute of my quiet time at her home and feel so blessed to have found such a safe, wonderful environment for my "retreat." Thank you, Melanie, for all you did! I truly could not have asked for anything more...
