We are a meditation and healing centre right on Pai River, by Memorial Bridge. Guests are welcome to come to take part in our programs & treatments, or just to chill in a quiet supportive environment.

We have a cafe/restaurant, natural hot spring pools and a variety of treatment options available.

Suits independent minded people who are seeking a quiet space 7km out of Pai.

The space

We are in a quiet location between Pai Memorial Bridge and Pai Hot Springs. We are in the small village of Ban Tapai. We often have neighbours' buffalo visiting us along the river, and even the occasional elephant or peacock.

Open Mind Centre is a lovely 7km drive out of Pai. Pai has walking street markets, and is a lively small town. We are close enough to pop in to look around or see some friends, just far enough out to really enjoy some quiet space, sunsets and stars, and sounds of nature.

Guest access

We have a cafe / meals area with huge verandah and spectacular mountain and sunset views.

We have several cabins available - if your dates are shown as not available, please message us.

Other things to note

As advertised on AirBnB, Mana’s Cabins are nestled in a lush setting along the Pai river and are appropriate for the self-sufficient independent traveller. However, considering that I had made an advanced booking, I got the impression that the cabin had sat unused for a period of time prior to my arrival. I had to do a light dusting of all the surfaces and contend with quite a few insects (dead and alive) the first few nights; other guests had similar issues. About two and a half weeks into my month-long stay, myself and other guests were directed to an ‘outdoor’ bamboo shed which housed a fridge and gas burners which were supposed to aid us in being self-sufficient. The entire area, including the interior of the fridge, was covered in grime and dead insects and myself and another guest had to clean (we opted to literally hosing down the interior) the fridge to make useable. Cooking would have been impossible since there was no gas canister nor had we been provided with cooking utensils. As advertised, Mana’s Cabin’s did have well-designed double hot spring pools on site. On the first day of my stay, I stepped into the pool only to discover that the bottom was thick with muck and moss. On the second day of my stay I offered to scrub the pool clean which I did. I assisted with cleaning the pools on two other occasions. I even helped Mana’s partner cut the meter-tall grass around the property and the cabins themselves. The motion sensor lights that were supposed to illuminate the 75 or so concrete steps down to the cabins did not function for about four nights; it took Mana that long to address the issue. Treatment rooms for massage and craniosacral therapy were mouldy and had to be sprayed. The meditation room was unswept and unmopped; the yoga pillows, cushions and mats were dirty. Mana’s overall attitude to his property- The Open Mind Centre, as it is supposed to facilitate guests who had made advanced bookings for accommodations or yoga or meditation programs was pathetically disrespectful and inconsiderate. Mana’s overall attitude toward his guests was most times unavailable, dismissive, contentious, antagonistic, insensitive, disrespectful and discourteous. He rarely greeted or interacted with his guests unless he was about to herd them into a group session of some sort. He seems narcissistic, conceited, selfish and closeminded. His entire persona in no way exudes nor reinforces the positive energy that should envelop a yoga/meditation centre.

I am a CranioSacral Therapy practitioner and meditation teacher (Mindfulness, Vipassana & Tibetan Buddhist practices in the Karma Kagyu lineage). I have been meditating for 40 years, including many retreats with some great teachers, and I'm still learning a lot every day.

Along with the rich traditions of Buddhist empirical psychology, I value many influences from Sufi practices and Western Mysteries and contemporary psychology (eg body-based approach to trauma and attachment theory). I find heart-melting inspiration in poets such as Kabir, Mirabai, Ryokan, Milarepa, Rumi and others.

I have been living in Thailand for 5 years. I find the mountains and forests around Pai truly inspiring, and the beauty of our property at Open Mind Centre never ceases to amaze me.

When I'm not busy at the centre, I like to travel the back roads in the mountains, play drums and guitar, learn more about meditation and healing, and sing bhajans / kirtan.
